Thieves. At one point, they can learn the skill that lets 'em use all sorts of restricted items and gear.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

doesn't mean to say they use it though.

i think a vanilla fighter would be the most versatile in terms of kit he can use (without a theif HLA)

Well...

There's lots of nice stuff for everyone. All classes get upgrades in ToB. But if using many different weapons is big for you, go for a dual-weilding straight up fighter, you can have 4 weapons in primary to pick from, as well as one offhand.
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

vanilla fighter??

What is a vanilla fighter? Is it a special kit, or is it just slang or something?

a vanilla fighter is a plain fighter with no kit.

you'll often hear people say that a vanilla cleric is worse than a cleric kit (because kits have no disadvantages)

To expand on Thrains explanation - the term vanilla is an expression meaning "withouth modifications" or "plain".
