I was just looking at the list of special abilities that will be available for each class in Throne Of Bhaal. I could use some clarification as to what they mean, or do, assuming that they are standard within the AD&D ruleset.
- For Rangers, what does Tracking do?
- For Thieves, what does Alchemy allow, and if they are now allowed to Scribe Scrolls, what level can they cast?
- For Bards, what is the Magic Flute? Does it mean a better Bard Song?
I'd appreciate any input into these questions. It looks like I'm going to be restarting from my F/M/T in order to take a single-class into the expansion and therefore get the special abilities. I have it narrowed down to an Archer or Stalker, an Assassin or Swashbuckler, a Berserker, or a Blade.
Thanks,
ElvenKing

I remember reading that the tracking ability allows a Ranger to tell what type of creatures are around, alchemy will allow a thief to mix a few (I don't know which ones) potions and I also have not read about the level of spells. I would guess that the flute has some detrimental effect on bad guys or some enhancing effect on your party, but that too is just a guess.

Well,I'm not so experienced with AD&D but I can tell you what tracking does in IWD...hmm,maybe I should simply post the whole manual here
Tracking
Rangers have a new special ability, tracking, which can be selected from the special abilities bar (accessed through the star button on the bottom right of the main screen). When used, the ranger can attempt to look for tracks and gain information on what type of creatures,if any, have passed through the area.Potential information that can be gained from tracking includes the number of creatures, the direction they were traveling in,and how long ago the tracks were made. This ability works on any map in Icewind Dale and Heart of Winter, and it can provide important clues to what creatures lurk in the area. The skill ’s success is based on the ranger ’s level (+5%for every three levels)and his wisdom (+5%per point of wisdom),and it can only be used once per day.
About Alchemy, sorry but really I have no idea
Perhaps it includes making of potions and such stuff ?Also,Buck was kind enough to describe the Magic Flute for us right here in my Bard topic

There is no knowledge, that is not power...
Thanks for all the helpful responses people! The tracking ability sounds pretty cool - too bad it can only be used once per day. Maybe they'll expand upon it a bit in Throne of Bhaal. It's also nice to see that having a decent Wisdom can actually help a non-clerical character.
I now have narrowed down my new PC to either an Archer/Stalker, or an Assassin/Swashbuckler, thanks in large part to your help. Too bad I'm ditching my F/M/T, but there's too many cool things I'd be missing!
