Post by Musashi Miyamoto »

Please keep us informed of your impressions. I'm particularly interested if old strategies (like the shield of Balduran for beholders) work in light of the changes.

I haven't played that much but i'm sort of thinking of dumping vicy for aerie, because she has stone skin and vicy don't so it'll be much tougher to protect her esp with all these from little to massivly tougherned up critters.

Anyway i picked up jan and the game so far has progressed pretty much the same but i'm trying to finish most of the quest in amn before i head out to windspear hills umber hill, etc... some dirty dwarf in the CC showed me a new area i have yet to vist it, if i'm right its probably much tougher than most area so i'm going to bunker up some levels first. and oh yeah Ogres are all over the place theyre not good xp only 275 but they got quite a bit of hp and can hit for an solid amount of damage esp to an bard, i'm playing an custom kit btw, i think chanter, or is that some other class, the one i'm playing lets u have 3 stars in single handed weapons and 3 stars in dual, but single handed only incudes certain weapons like katana, swords, it don't incude axe or mallet or war hammer or club i don't think and there is some other disaverage but i don't rember right now

Sorry, but... what are you talking about?
What do you mean by "TDD"?
Maybe Tob changed even difficulty levels?

IMHO, all it's about The Darkest Day, unofficial ext. of SoA, isn't it?

Yup, the darkest day, a very good mod for BG 2. I'm playing it only on hard, and trust me, that is MORE than tough enough. Sadly, I admit I had to turn it down to NOVICE to get past some sections.

There are some amazing new pieces of equipment, NPC's back from Bg1, new quests, and 75!!! New kits. OUTSTANDING. Add on all the new spells and presto, awesome. My one complaint is it crashes a bit. More like a lot

So far, all I've run into is the usual this and that, but they are substantially tougher. The Irenicus dungeon is 100X tougher, especially before the patch. Like Musashi, I havent met up with any big baddies, except for the Greater Werewolves, who are IMMUNE to everything except for magical damage, which they are resistant too. Note, avoid fighting these guys unless you have several spellcasters with plenty of Offensive spells, and then only 1 at a time. Right now, I have Myself, a Blade singer, Jaheria, Valygar (who ROCKS) Yeslick, who is SO cut when I get out of the current dungeon, Adario the assasin, good enough, might drop him for Monty, and S'Hartel or some such thing, who is TERRIBLE, has a worse ac and deals less damage than minsc, and is Far less fun. Once I get back, I'm going to get Korgy, and Edwin in their place. If your looking for a very good spellcaster, get Robilliard, hes great, but he comes at a heavy price hehehehe. I'll leave that for you to find out.

Knight a question for u where is this dude, and i'm wondering about his spells do he has more bonus spell edwin got +2 per level cause of his amulet and +1 from being speced so that's +3 spell a level, and with TDD cap being level 50 he got 5 level 9's then add on that +3 bonus 8 level 9 spell that's scarey :)

Wow, thats IS a lot of spells

As to the Greater werewolves, there are a bunch of them in TrollFord, man, that place is tough.

Hey Mus, any Idea as to where Kiran is?

Why does Yeslick suck, @Knight Errant? As I recall from BG1, his Wisdom was prety high.

Hey Fable, yeslick is useless, his const is good, his wisdom is only 16, pretty weak, and he had all around lower stats then Anomen, plus, when you get him for some reason he has a slot for a 5th level spell but cant cast it. Drives me insane. If you want someone who can fight and heal, anomen and Jaheria are both better choices. His redeming quality is he has good lines.

A 5th spell slot you can't use? Have you reported the bug to TeamBG? I'm sure they'd been interested.

You know, there's a lot to be said for having party members who aren't the best. After playing through the first couple of times, it's fun to strategize how to work around the weaknesses of a B Team. I'm kind of busy now, but my latest party includes Anomen, Cernd, and Haer'dalis: not the easiest characters to use before they really max out. :D

i downloaded the game!
Its really really tough!!! I'm playing novice. I coulnd't even beat the bugbears in level 1 of irenicus's dungeon and only 625 xp! what a ripoff!
And aren't ogres supposed to be tougher than bugbears.
The only drawback of the game is that you have to start a new game.

Hey Fable, I agree with you that the weaker characters present a cooler game than with the power chars, but alas, TDD is too tough a game to play without some good help backing you up. Im with Thorin on this one, its insanely difficult on core rules. I also had to reduce the dif to novice just to escape the first dungeon. Thorin, Spoiler

Watch out for the wraith near the end. If you havent already killed it. Always be alert, even on old quests, the game has a tendancy of throwing in odd monsters here and there.

(There is also a really awesome cap in Bloodscalps area, rogues cowl, get it.)

I found rob the mage, and he's cool. i also found three new town on the map some are copies of area from bg I while others are 100% new and others are modifyed but its still AWESOME FUN!

Heh, in what way did you find the bug bears too hard? I play on Insane all the time and i refuse to downgrade no matter how hard i refuse to downgrade, anyway i could defeat them, with a bard, and imoen, they gave me a little bit of fits but wasn't that tough. imho but the new critters in the dugon is awesome it adds more to the game. seems more Real i mean in a sense that jonny boy does not want you to escape

Heh the sad thing is i have already defeated most of the BG II default dugon like the windspearan hill and so on with a lone bard, jan, and vicy, just recently picked up rob, then my game file got courrupted :( :( so i'm going to have to redo, but heh i personaly don't see why peoples thought the first dugeon was so tough, it gave me fits yes, but after an max of maybe 2 tries i defeated each of the hard area and it was a great upgrade :D

TDD is cool, it really makes SOA the length it should have been. You can actually reach the old exp cap with 6 party members by the time you face Irenicus in hell. After that you got the actual quest about the darkest day. They have added a lot of monsters to the existing areas and a bunch of new spells (some of which give a much needed boost to the druid). The only thing I can't figure out is how to kill damn greater werewolves. I can't touch even with the holy avenger

Knight Errant,
I know that Yeslick sucks but where did you find him. I heard it was in the Temple District but I didn't come across him. So if you could let me know I would appreciate it.

BTW, the TDD forum states that Yeslick will be able to use the 5th level spell after he levels up.

Thanks.
