A question that's been torturing me for long
I recently started my second party to try out the Monk. I'm really reallly pedantic and careful when i pick my party. Right now i have me(monk), Minsc, Anomen, Jaheira, Jan and Nalia. Before i play my monk too long i'd like to know anyone with experience if it's worth the trouble, is the monk a good good class? And if so, what NPC's would be perfect for it's party? I'm too freakin pedantic but i want it all to be perfect...

I played it through with my monk together with Minsc, Keldorn, Aerie, Sir Anomen and Nalia (later replaced by Imoen). Aerie was a little redundant in the last chapter, but who am I to resist her.
This team turned out really good and if I were you I should consider getting Keldorn because of his true seeing and dispel magic and of course Carsomyr. Having both Jan and Nalia seems a little redundant to me. Is it a lot of spellcasters you want or what?

Monks end up being the most powerful of all the classes, IMHO. At high levels, it got boring walking through rooms of hostiles and pounding everything without fear of going wrong. Monks are worth it, but I didn't find them that challenging, after a while. There are other threads that talk about this, if you want to search.
I don't want to discourage you, cuz Monks really do rock. Just too much, maybe, at high levels. I was Lawful Good and had Keldorn (a must!), Minsc, Aerie, Jaheira (untill I found Imoen), and Nalia. Heep Imoen and ditch Jaheira. You won't need the extra fighter power in Jaheira and Aerie is enough of a cleric at high levels. Plus, you can really use the firepower of three mages. Entire party is good aligned, once Jaheira is gone.

And losing the best anti-mage spell in the game, I think not.

The monk is excellent and well worth the work, on a side note do not stock up on too many NPC's as this prohibits the experience you can gain as a single character, with a Monk it is vital you get him to raise levels as quickly as possible due to his AC bonuses.
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.
Again I have to say...Jahaira not only is an awesome fighter as well as a druid...she has the best anti-mage spell in the game...works on everyone...everyone i say. So while i know you can beat the game without her...she really is worth keeping around. Oh yes its that insect swarm spell level 5. Use it often and you will be happy.
