Lists of Objects Please

Post by tirann »

Could a few people list for me 10-20 items categorised into magic and non-magic please. Anything you can think of. Ie:

Dagger +1
Potion of Regeneration
Halberd +2

etc, etc.

or non-magic

A copper cooking pot
A plain tunic

etc etc

I need to compile a list for a HTML-based random item generator. I'm almost finished I just need much more objects. Then the object generator will be ready to e-mail out to anyone who wants it FREE OF CHARGE...

DM: You open the creaky old chest and find (*hang on...click*) a.... dirty sock.

Players: (In unison) A DIRTY SOCK!?!??!?

Even the DM doesn't know what his players are going to get.

Going to try and generate the same thing for dice. PC-based dice rolls. But for now.... items please everyone.

-magical items-
+1 bastard sword
+2 short sword
flaming longsword
+1 quarterstaff
+2 morningstar
Bracers of armor +3
+1 composite shortbow
+1 repeating crossbow
40 +1 arrows
40 +1 bolts
-non magical items-
A glass bottle
a yellow topaz
farmer's garments
a purple cape
an empty leather bag
a severed finger and ear
a blank scroll
a bronze helmet
a ring- roll D%
01-35 = bronze
36-56 = copper
57-80 = silver
81-100 = gold
-extrordinary items-
a portal to another plane
an endless pit

All of those were off the top of my head, so they aren't as good as they could be. Hope this helps some.
So I offer you respect, and it will take much for you to lose it. But if you do, if you choose to see it as weakness and seize upon your perceived advantage, well...perhaps I'll then let you talk with Guenhwyvar.

That's great!!!

More like that. All are great examples and all have been added to the list of 'random' items.

Thanx DeathLich!

Hmm - it seems to be that for something like this to work you would have to use a more structed approch.
Start with weapons, and type up all the weapons types. Next goes to the same process of armour, helmets, boots, bracers, rings .... etc, right down to miscellanious items (like your sock)
Then do the same with magical attributes (or any other attributes, like dirty).

This way you would have a list/table/database of items, and the same with magical abilities and other sorts of attributes.

Then base it all on some level conditions and volia. Then you wouldn't even have to type up a Bastard Sword, Bastard Sword +1, ...., Bastard Sword +5. You'd just combine Bastard Sword with the ability +5 instead. Save a lot of "program space".

Of course - it is just the programmer aspect of me talking, but just getting items mentioned in somewhat unstructed order wastes time :D :)

Otherwise - proberly a good idea to make an Object Randomizer. I'd just advice to do it structued :)

Ha ha...yeah. This is being done in HTML. Real simple stuff. Just picks one of a list of items then displays it in the interface.

Not supposed to be a comprehensive list, just something fun to give adventures a bit of depth and unpredictability.

I'm no programmer...

That said, I'm in the process of trying to work out if the whole process (with every item...like...ever) can be done with ASP.Net : one of my mates is a programmer.

The item picked will be a random item from the hundred or so I plan to enter into the list.

So until we can put together a great .net randomising agent a basic unstructured list will do.

The format that DeathLich put his in is great.

I'll send you a copy when it's done Xandax... It's actually based on a random name generator. I haven't even changed the Male/Female randomising perametres - that's how basic and temporary it is.

Just doing it for a bit of cheap (free) fun.... and gamers will benifit.

It should very well be possible to make it in ASP(.NET) without many problems. :)
