BGII slow down after playing ??

Post by Hex92 »

I just started playing BGII yesterday and I am noticing that if I play for for 45-60 minutes the game gets real choppy. If I exit the game and start again it speeds back up for ~30 minutes then it slows down, then 15 minutes...Eventually I must reboot the computer. The weird thing is that I will always have 92% of my resources free after exiting the game. The computer is about 2 weeks old (900 Mhz Athlon, 128MB PC133, 30GB ATA 100 HDD, 32MB Geforce II), so I can't imagine that it is a hardware problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem???

I have found that it slows up quite often and gets real choppy. I usually restart the computer. It can be frustrating and who knows? Maybe they will create a patch to clean it up a bit.

I have noticed this slowdown, too. There was a similar slowdown in Torment, which is another game using the same engine. They released a patch for this game then, they should do this for BG2.
Anyone who used the beta patch which was released recently, should reply if have noticed an improvement of performance.

I applied the patch today, and now it takes only 15 minutes for the game to slow to a crawl. Definitely NOT an improvement.

It might be a problem related to the AMD processor. I have the same problem AMD k6-2 550. None of my "Intel" budy's have that problem...?

Just my two cents!

Mm, that's odd. I have an AMD K6-2 as well, and I don't experience any slowdown at all, even after hours of play.

Admitted, some areas are more taxing of my system (lots of monsters, special effects, etc...) so it might go a little choppy in those areas. But otherwise I don't have slowdown problems.

I've got an Athlon 750 with 256RAM and a GeForce 2 and I did notice some slowdown in the Underdark, but it was when there were large battles with a lot of spells being cast and then my system was taxed in the extreme.
