Favourite School of Magic!

Post by Lost One »

Ok, so what's your favourite school of magic and why?

Personally, I like Illusion the best. This is because it is so diverse, and you can be very creative with illusionist spells, such as leaving an illusion of yourself on the bed of an inn so that a would-be stalker would think you're still there and then whoomf, hit only air and the mattress as he strikes. You can scare people with images of dragons, impress people with illusionist tricks, pay with fool's gold...the limits are endless. :D

And besides, you also have conjuration spells (the shadow conjuration ones), and deadly spells (the phantasm ones) like phantasmal fear, weird, nightmare and all that.

An illusionist's bane, undead. :(
Check it out! One of my earliest, and certainly, more creative threads! :)

Illusions are cool against mindless creatures such as golems: Create an illusion of a "box" around it. The golem will just stand there. Then have your allies shoot at the golem, while you are concentrating on the illusion and creating arrow slits that magically appear as soon as the arrow passes throug the box. You'll have killed a golem with no effort at all.

A nice trick as well is to create a wall with tentacles around your allies. Then have the tentacles move through your allies (for disbelief) and they can look though the wal as if it wasn't there, and just shoot at things on the other side, who actually need to interact with it before they can disbelieve it.

Too bad one 6th level spell cancells all this, though.

But anyway, back on topic:

Mine's transmutation: Polymorph is just too good too pass up. Conjuration is also nice (shades: no material component, no xp. Goody!)

Conjuration.

I just like creating something out of nothing, it opens possibilities. :)

Necromancy.

So do I.

Well...something out of corpses.

Necromancy most definitely. My fave fantasy villain, hands down, is Szass Tam. He's deliciously evil and exceedingly smart. I find most fantasy villains pretty 1 dimensional, but Jean Rabe does a great job with him. I wish she'd do more with him.
Can you repeat the part after 'Listen very carefully'?

Necro for sure!

Nothing better than raising a graveyard worth of undead to fight for you.
