Firkraag (Slight Spoiler)

Post by TRODTROD »

Hi there, what level did everyone do Firkraag on? i think on my first game i was around level 14/15 with most people and i found it ok

this time i tried straight away with level 9/10/11 for most people, but got smashed before my PC typically (as usual) couldnt hold it anymore and crashed

I just did this last night. This time through my party was at around level 15, and it was still a fun battle. Tashia and Imoen died after casting Lower Resistance, but that still left my PC (sorc), Tashia, Jaheira and Chloe to deal out the damage, at one point I thought I wasn't going to make it though.
For the record I went right up there and spoke with him to initiate battle, and I didn't use any summons or traps ;)

nicely done! Thing is big battles is a problem for me, because as soon as i get 2 or 3 fireshields up, a few minor globes of invlunerabilty and a bit more magic protection my PC slows down stupidly, then its usually 50/50 whether it will crash and freeze or not, very annoying

I normally do it when my tanks are about level 10 or 11, and mages are about 9 and 10.

It takes reloads, tactics, and a lot of luck with rolls and resistances. Positioning your party correctly can prevent Firkraag from gibbing your characters. ;)

I do it as soon as the mage reaches lvl 12,
Notice that if you cast magic resistance of firkraag his magic res actually drops down to like 10-20%? Thats because if magic resistance goes over 100% with the spell it wraps around and drops it down. So if you cast that spell on him beforehand, his resistance goes way down.
Then a lower resistance normally brings it down to 0%
Greater Malison + Doom lowers his saves by 6?
The the level 12 mage (actually I always use sorcerer now) throws as many chromatic orbs as possible and usually in about 3-4 orbs firkraag doesn't make his save and simply dies.

I always got (before tactics) Carsomyr ASAP, so I always beat him at level 9.

I just laid the max number of traps i could, then summoned a fire elemental, and a lesser air elemental from staff I had gotten from umar hills quest(?) Anyway, then I attacked, watched his damage go to badly injured and just kept attacking until I took him down, I also used some magic missles.

Magic Missiles are great!
I had my mages and sorcerers wack Firkragg with Lower Resistance, Pierce Magic, Breach etc. Then I had them simultaneously fire off many magic missiles, much fun! :p

Minor Sequencer rocks for that.

Wands of Lightning deal a LOT of damage to him most of the time, too.

What difficulty do u people do it in?

My record is no reloads, no summons(which is boring cuz the mage gets the kill instead of my fighters), with Mazzy, Jaheria, Minsc, Yoshimo, my PC (bet u cant guess what class :p ) and Valygar at about 9/10 on Core.

I guess you play Mage/Sorc/bard

If you dont then you are truly bold , defeating the game, and Irenicus in the end , without a mage of some sort is , IMO very very hard no matter what difficulty you play at (except maybe easy..)

Irenicus (and all the liches) with his timestops & protections can kill you in a few rounds unless you have some means of countering.

;) ;)

Wizard Slayers, Monks to some degree and Inquisitors can take care of any mage problems u meet. And if they dont work use Protection from Magic scrolls. Plus if ur theif has UAI he can Polymorph into Jelly and kill the mage like that.

Lvl 15 with my solo bard. Casted Stoneskin, Prot. from Magic Weapons, Mirror Image, Fireshield: Red, Spell Immunity: Divination, Mislead. Summoned a barbarian (Iron Horn of Valhalla), two Skeletal Warriors, a fire and air elemental (staves of fire and air control) and Kitthix (the spider). First two spells were Pierce Magic and Lower Resistance (twice), than 3-4 skulltraps. Then fired some magic missiles, and finished with the ever succesful combo of dual-wielding Dragonslayer & Celestial Fury, and casting (from scrolls, i didn't have that many spell slots) Improved Haste and Tensers Transformation.

Lower Resistance is not a rare spell. Its for sale I think in Waukeen's promenade, on at least one of the spell merchants. Look for a red heart.
