Skipping Hortator and Nerevarine?

Post by Anonononomous »

I had just gotten then Moon and Star and was on my way to become the nerevarine and hortator for everybody. I went to ask the urshilaku wise woman for advice. She complained about me not having completed the trials and told me to immediately see Saryoni. Why?

umm... you are supposed to be horator before nevarine I think, and after you get the ring you have to tell her about it, whatever 'trial' it was... or put it on and talk to her about 'moon and star'

You are supposed to become the Hortator of EVERY Great House and the Nerevarine of EVERY Ashlander tribe. And it doesn't really matter which order you do it in, but you have to do before you progress in the main story line.

not true, you have to do each great house in a very particular oreder... which i dont remember anymore. I think it was redoran, hllalu, telvani. but i am not sure. you have to the the urshiklu first of the ahslanders... and they tell you that you can do it either way, nevarine or horator first, but it is better to go for horator first because people will like you more if you are not claiming to be nevarine, and defying the mighty tempel doctrines.

Uh, no. I became Nerevarine first on my last run-through, no problems. And there isn't any order. I'm just wondering why she is sending me to Saryoni already. Last time I had to become the Nerevarine and Hortator for everybody first.

I've never heard of this order to do things in, Jesterking. I've always just skampered all over the place, hortator of one great house, then step into one of the ashlander camps, then maybe another great house, then another camp... I'm pretty sure it doesn't make an ounce of difference. Where'd you read that there was an order to follow?
you know what they say about all work and no play...
It's totally not worth the monetary rewards!!!

Oh wait Saryoni is the guy who invites you to meet him in the High Fane isn't he? Then there is no problem, he is the next step in the main quest. And the reason the Wise Woman says the trials are not complete is because Hortator and Nevarine are not the last of the trials, I think they are #4 and #5 so you still have a few trials to go.

So don't worry you seem to be on the right track.

And Jester, there is absolutly no difference in which order you do the Hortator and Nerevarine trials, just because some walkthrough said so doesn't mean it's true.

I accidentally didn't get officially named urshiklu neravarine 'til I'd done all the other tribes and great houses (redoran last). I had to go back to sul matuul and make it formal.

which doesn't get to the substance of what anonounounetc. was asking about. You don't go to the High Fane til after you've united the tribes and houses. the note from the temple says don't even bother coming til you've united all the tribes.

Go down through your journal and figure out which one you missed.

There might be an easier way, like maybe in the list of houses and guilds with which yer affiliated?

ok I talked to suul matul and he told me it would be wise to go to the great houses before you were named nevarine so that the tempel dudes wouldnt make life hard because you 'defied their doctrines' and were a heretic, and not everyone would hate you. just to make life easier. but then it wouldnt let me become horator of houses telvani or hllalu until i was redoran horator... maybe it was a glitch. anonymous... maybe they know you have done it before and just want to get it over with, it has to be tedios repeating the same lines over and over and over and over... lol, see what saryoni wants.

Ok in that case hold of on going to Saryoni untill you become the Hortator and Nervarine. Otherwise there is no point to go to Saryoni because as Aaron said the dude doesn't want to see you until you become both Hortator of all the Great Houses and the Nervarine of all the Ashlander tribes.

Don't worry about the fact that you are being sent there so early.

Awright! I finally finished the main quest with my XBox character around 4 this a.m.!

JesterKing's advice sounds pretty good, having just done it the other way around. I did most of the Neravarine stuff first cuz I read somewhere it was easier. Even without the heresy thing, my XBox character was getting chased all around by Indoril ordinators cuz he was wearing a suit of their armor, but there were some extra hassles over my heresies once I was recognized as the Neravarine of one tribe. A lot of NPCs who said they were ticked at me ("The House of Redoran knows what to do with heretics!") didn't screw with me at all, though, and some maintained real high dispositions toward me (My character was an imperial bard born under the sign of the lady, so I think high personality [was at 99 through most of the end game] helped a lot.)
