Adventurers 1, Black Dragon 0 (Very Funny)

Post by tirann »

Ha ha ha ha,

Very funny little session. Okay, don't know whether people might class this as a spoiler but here go's anyway.

Wandering around Suldanasellar (Spelling ?) having lots of fun killing gollems and rakeashasa (also spelling ?). A few challenges but nothing my group couldn't handle.

So I've got everything else but I need to get the cup from the black dragon in the North-West 'clearing'.

Spell-protections up, go in, summon a bit of help.

First problem: Haer-Dalis gets his Monster Summoning I (Yes, I later realised this was the wrong button, trying to summon Invisible Stalker) spell off faster than everyone else.

Summons four war dogs.... war dogs! Against a black dragon?... yeah, nice work 'RAVEN'. Clown! (+ 1 fire elemental... "You cannot control more than five creatures at a time...")

Luckily, about half a second later Edwin get's his finger of death spell off.

Black Dragon Save vs. Death....

FAILED. DEATH.

Two spells. That's it.

How the hell could Edwin Finger of Death a Black Dragon? I was hoping he'd get the spell off, do a bit of damage and disrupt the dragon's casting.

Imoen, Jan and Jiehara (Yes, party is very caster-heavy) were all lined up with Miscast, Pierce Magic and Magic Missiles...

VERY VERY FUNNY

Thought finger only worked on people with 6hd or below? (or was that death spell?)

Nah power word kill kills ppl who are weakend, i dont think finger of death has any restrictions like that.
The world is very sharp, so theres no use protecting yourself from it. Enjoy life, just make sure you dont get cut too deep.

There's four death spells:

Death Spell (itself)
Finger of Death
Power-Word (Kill)
Symbol: Death

Death spell is supposed to only work on lower level creatures. Esp. effective against summoned creatures.

Finger of death is simple save vs. death, if save then take damage (3d4 I think - could be wrong and probably am but it is a set amount)

Power-Word Kill is also reasonably simple from what I can gather, if the targer has less than x life points then they die if they fail save vs. death.

Symbol: Death. As above but cast on ground for target to be 'trapped' instead of on target.

I definately used Finger of Death. That's what's so bizarre. Either it was a freak roll and the dragon failed his save vs. death or the dragon doesn't have a high enough save vs. death magic score.

For power word kill, its below 60 life.

chromatic orb has been reported to kill dragons in one cast as well...usually used with doom and malison, but some people have reported taking down dragons with the spell... :D :D :D

At level 12, a mage can kill a foe with Chromatic Orb (There's a save vs spell I think).

First time I've slain Thraaxilla repeats this very well. Jan & Aerie - Lower resistance. Jaheira: Doom. Dragon: Wing buffet.

Party returns. Jan: Malison. Aerie: Malison. Dragon breath: Minsc down. (very low level party)

Jan: Ligthing bolt. Aerie: Chromatic orb.

Shadow Dragon: Petrified. Destroyed by lighting bolt.

End of file.

A shame we cant get the cool items when petrifying him (specially his dragon scales).
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.
