Ingot

Post by Psi_RedEye22 »

Just started using the Complete Morrowind mods, and I'm working on Smithing...my question is...where the heck to I find steel ingots? (And furthermore, why are they needed for glass weaponry?)

welll glass isnt 100% glass... there are peices of glass held together by strong metals, otherwise it wouldnt offer all that much protection now would it. The glass acts as a shock absorber/distributor so the armor itself doesnt get damaged as quickly. :o

Slightly off topic I guess but I don't think the Morrowind materials are meant to represent the stuff we have on earth. Ebony is wood here, over there its the second strongest kind of armour, and can withstand repeated blows with an iron sword. Glass is opaque in the real world, but green in MW, plus its so much stronger. If I ever started hitting somebody wearing steel armour with a glass sword I'd be hoping some of the pieces went through their visor and I could make a run for it while they were blinded.

I honestly believe the materials are different, those two at least.

And if it was all true, adamantium would be the strongest armor in the game. I swear they stole adamantium from Marvel Comics.

true... but the 'official morrowind site' goes over all the armor types, its actually pretty interesting. It tells how ebony is named that after the color of the wood, which it is... and tells how glass is used in armor, and besides glass is found in volcac caverns, which means its not remotely like our glass anyway, ours being melted sand... byt yes i would suggest you go to the elder scrolls site and look at the backround, its interesting if you are like me and read every book in the game so you know more about the world you play in.

Haha, I laughed when I first played Tribunal and found there was Adamantium. Isn't adamant found in pretty much all RP games? I know it was in Final Fantasy - not sure about 1, but it was definitely in 2 and after. "Adamant" must have originated somewhere, if so many games make reference to it. It wasn't in Lord of the Rings, but didn't The Hobbit make a brief reference to it as a dwarven crafted armor?

In Age of Mythology the doors to Tartarus are made of adamantium.

But I never read about any adamantium in the Theogony or the Works and Days.

One of the most popular works of Italian poetry and fantasy from the Renaissance, Orlando Furioso, makes reference to Castle Adamant. And in another, Tasso's Jerusalem Regained, there's a line about "of double brass, iron or adamant." Adamant was said to be a mystically forged substance, stronger than any secular metal.

Trust you to know, Fable, trust you to know. Where do you dig up this stuff, anyway? Do you have your Master's in The History of Fantasy, Games and Lore? Unbelievable.

I stopped watching tv 14 years ago. That does give you more time to do a lot of things, you know. :)

i dont think hobbit touched on adamantium... it was more like Mithril. maybe both... havent read that one in a few years. I know there is adamantium in 50% of games I play though... in 'mordor'(old school 1996 rpg) you get adamantium stuff in the lower levels of the great dungeon... final fantasy, fantasy star, you name it. but hey did anyone ever answer psi_red's question? i cant because im just a poor xbox guy.

well, maybe the glass is allegorised as obsidian... that was formed in volcaic caverns, and was stronger than steel, as the aztecs proved against the conquistadors.

Obsidian is the one with the crystals that are so fine they cut you if you just hold what looks like a smooth rock in your hand right?

obsidian is a very very hard but very very brittle volcanic rock. Yes, they can become extremely sharp, which is why it was so popular with indians as arrowheads... I wouldnt want it as armor though, you can chip away at it very fast. for a weapon it owuld need to be sharpened all the time...but it sounds like obsidian is closer to the ebony of the game than the glass, in color at least... another thing, did anybody notice that inside ghostgate there are mines with imperial people in it? thought it was odd that the ordinators wet themselves everytime they hear 'red mountain' but there are these unarmed civilians working away in the glass mines... anything for a buck eh?

NO KIDDING! I had never stepped into that cave before, and when I did, I was like "oh sweet, glass!", and started mining to my little heart's content. Then I saw all these people around... crazy huh? And none of them seemed to acknowledge or be frightened at all that they were WITHIN THE BIG SCARY GHOST GATE AMONGST DAGOTH'S DARK SERVANTS!!!!

I don't know, man, those nix hounds would scare the CRAP out of me if I were a dreamer. I'd be like "Oh no! It's pawing at me! I might drop my corprusmeat! Where the heck did I leave my club?" and probably shed some large clumps of skin and run away whimpering.
I do go on, don't I?

So is somebody gonna answer this "ingot" question, or what? I'm really curious to know, myself.
