OK - so I finally got tired of the "enhanced" Jaheira dreadlock image in BG2, and decided to switch it to the original... only I can't seem to find the photos anywhere. I guess they are in some infernal, compressed datafile accessible only by the supernally clever?
In addition, I tried to import some shots for my toon in 8-bit 110x170 and 38x60 Windows BMP format, but get - umm - nothing.

I'm not certain how to switch Jaheira's portrait, but I always use a custom image for my PC.
You need to do the following:
1. create a folder in your main SoA folder called portraits
2. Place both a large and a small version of the image(s) you want to use in this. As you obviously know, the large image needs to measure 110 (W) by 170 (H), and the small picture needs to be 38 (W) by 60 (H)and they need to be saved in BMP format.
3. If you have your game minimized while you are doing all of this you will need to restart in order to access the custom portraits.
I hope that helps somewhat...
Some portraits, I have found, for whatever reason, do not seem to work, no matter what you attempt. You may be experiencing something like this, in which case it might be an idea to try with different images acquired from different sources to see if this affects anything.

If you want to replace Jaheira's portrait with a new one, then name them as follow:
- NJAHEIRL.bmp (210 x 330)
- NJAHEIRM.bmp (110 x 170)
- NJAHEIRS.bmp (38 x 60)
And put these files in the Override folder of BG2, I'm not sure if you'll need to restart the game or not - have not done anything like this yet.
Edit: Opps, just realised that you're looking for the old portraits from BG1 and not how to change the current one with a new one. Anyway, the portrait files are too large to attach here, so I uploaded them to my website, get it here. Unzip the file and put the there bmp files into the Override folder of BG2.
Oh yeah, and you might actually need to start a new game for the change to work - I haven't done anything like this before, so I'm not sure what will happen when you continue with a saved game after putting the new files in.
