Romance and a party question

Post by Therion_the_Dwarf »

Ok for the romance question. How exatly do you get involved with someone in this romance thing? When does it occur? Also should I add Jan Janson to my party and get rid of Nalia?
Im my party I have:
me a fighter
Minsic
Aerie
Jaheria
Nalia
and Yoshimo (will be exchanged for Iomen when that occurs)
Would it be worth it? With Aerie Jan and Iomen I would think I would have alot of mage power, right?

Give it enough time and romance will start between your character and whoever the romance partners-to-be are in your party. You'll need to work on the interaction between yourself and them first though. If there's "magic", the relationship will grow. By the way, the dialogue only happens outside dungeons. Also, you can have potential conflicts as well. Like realistically, more than one person may like you so what are you going to do? Or the same person you have feelings for someone else you know likes them also, what are you going to do? Anyway, time is key. Romance doesn't just start out of the whim.

As for Jan, shrugs. You could dump Nalia if you want. I found her to be a bore. Her only advantage over Jan is she can scribe 3 more spells and learn 5% them better. They both share the same Spell Level, but Jan is more comical.

Heh, you're approaching my party make-up when I completed the game. By the way, take Haer'Dalis with you for a bit if you plan on romancing Aerie. Image

Minsc
Jahiera
Aerie
Jan

Jan is multiclass (rather than duel), and thus won't be able to get spells above 6th level. I would recommend you have at least one spellcaster who can get to max level. I've never had Jan, so I don't know how funny he is, but I wouldn't recommend replacing Nalia (Who is a better mage) with him. Imoen can get to max level, but I would recommend at least two top level mages. Imoen will probably be enough, however. Depends how much you like Jan.
As for romancing, it can only happen with Jaheira, Aerie or Viconia. You must have noticed them coming onto you by now? (And getting jealous of each other). It happens pretty quickly, it was all over between me and Aerie before I left for spellhold.
PS bullions27, Nalia and Jan do NOT share the same spell level. Nalia gets much higher. And what happens with Aerie if Haer'Dalis is in your party?

One could always have their main char as a sorcerer / mage then the problem of an npc mage reaching a high level is removed Image

Nalia and Jan share the same spell level. They have 17 and 16 INT scores respectively if I remembered correctly. I'll need to pull the game out of the dusty shelf and recheck but I could've sworn those were their scores.

In regards to Haer'Dalis,

Over a period of some time, Haer'Dalis will be using subtle remarks to romance Aerie. This happens even if you are already romancing her. Aerie won't reject his advances terribly and he will continue. Eventually however, there will be a oint where he will initiate dialogue and pour his heart out to Aerie how he feels about her. You will be presented with choices whether you share the same feelings. Haer'Dalis will try to insult you as well but don't fall for it. Be truthful and warm-hearted with your sincerity of your love to Aerie, and Haer'Dalis will challenge you to a duel over her. Aerie will object since she's being treated like a prize. You are then presented with choices whether you want to duel the bard so you can teach him a lesson, duel him for her love, talk it over, or say you actually don't love her as much and Haer'Dalis can have her. If you are sincere with your love and talk calmly with Haer offering a few words of wisdom, you will keep keep the two. If you are sincere and admonish Haer, he will leave but you will keep Aerie. If you are not sincere, Aerie will leave and Haer will leave as well. If you kill Haer in the duel, Aerie will leave. If you injure Haer, he will leave but Aerie will stay and the romance stops.

What do their intelligence scores have to do with their spell level? The only thing intelligence affects is Max spell level. This never comes into it with Jan as he can only reach 13th level, and therefore only ever cast 6th level spells at best, no matter what his inelligence. I suppose if you used the XP cap remover he would get to higher levels, but it would be very hard to get a multiclass wizard to level 16 or higher. It would take almost twice as long as for Nalia or Imoen.

Intelligence affects the maximum spell level you can learn so Nalia and Jan both will not be able to learn level 9 spells if you remove the XP cap. I'm basing the arguement that you are without any sort of XP cap on your characters. If not then yeah Nalia and Imoen both will have spells up to their maximum level they can learn and Jan would be behind.

Intelligence actually does more than that

It affects the max spell lvl u can learn( as mentioned ),
Number of spells in the spellbook per lvl
( at INT=19 u can have unlimited spells written in ur spellbook )
As well as percentage success in scribing ( writing ) a spell

If u find that ur mage's INT is too low, just give him/her a potion of Genius ( it solved all of my problems Image )

There are only four characters in the game that you can get involved with. For male characters, they are Aerie, Jaheira and Viconia, for female characters you only have Anomen. Guess they don't do homosexual relationships. Image

Anyway, I consider it a bit weird that they give male characters THREE options, while they present females only ONE. Do they expect that 75% of all main characters are MALES?? Even so, a minimum of 2 would have been nice for the ladies ... what about Haer'Dalis? Minsc?

I'm not into it either, but well, for someone who has such feelings, that might be lacking in this game.

Did this also exist in (real) medieval times? I think it must have ...
