as my solo career begins to falter, i'm already planning a new party.
Currently I have:
PC - CG necromancer
Minsc
Valygar
Mazzy
Jaheira
Imoen
now, normally, i have very melee-heavy parties and this is no different. But i'm wondering whether i'm going to have enough healing power to get through. there's no cleric there and jaheira is a multi-class, making me lack the clerical power. Is it worth me changing my PC for a cleric/mage?

IMO you can get by without a cleric, many people do it, and Jaheira has raise dead since she's a Harper. Plus, there are plenty of potions, and don't forget the Ring of Gaxx has an insane rate of regeneration.
Personally, though, I never travel without at least one cleric. Presently I have both Jaheira and Aerie.. having two individuals with raise dead spells is kind of handy.. though the Rod of Ressurection will do as well. I also like having somebody in my party who can cast Restore, given all the level draining creatures in the game. Needing to trudge to a temple every time you get level drained (since no potions or other items will do this) can be a real chore...
It's really a matter of personal preference and playing style though. I mean, I often go for spell caster heavy parties, so there are always plenty of clerical abilities around.

You will definitely fare well with only Jaheira as cleric. She doesn't have that many spells per day, but the ones she'll get combined with a lot of potions and heal scrolls will do nicely. And as for the lack of buffing spells, Jaheira can cast a couple by herself, and your mages have some as well, so it shouldn't be too bad I think.

Making due without a cleric will certainly cause things to be tougher, but are you really looking to make the game any easier? As most of us have played through it once (or more), trying to find strategic solutions to professions missing from the party is one of the things that keeps BG2 fresh, in my opinion.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Need more power?
If you need more power, I'd recommend taking out minsc and adding Keldorn with carsomyr... just my 2 cents worth.
