Nope its just 1 (+). The reason is cuz assassins r stealth fighters. If u want to fight use a fighter. Assassins use poison and backstab. They dont need the other +s.

It's a question of balance. In the normal game, only fighters can get to 5 * in a weapon. If any class could have a grandmastery in a weapon, what would be the fighters' advantage over other classes?

Once you get high enough level, your THAC0 is lowered, and added on to the items you may have to lower it... As it stands now, my assassin has rarely ever missed using backstab... and when he hits, mages get chunked... :D

If you want a great Assassin (With High combat skills), just make a Pure Fighter (Or a Berserker), and dual to a thief at level 13. Put all your (+++) in the weapons you want to use (Staffs, S. Sword, L. Sword, Daggers, etc.). You'll not lose alot of XP (Since Thief level really fast) and you'll be a great Backstabber & backup fighter. Just equip yourself with Ring of Gaax (Invis. 1/day), a Ring of Air Control (Invis. 1/day) and an Improved Cloak of Protection +2 (Improved Invis. 1/day - Require ToB), so you can backstabb 4 times without running away.

Plus, after you use the ring of air control, you could switch it for a ring of invis that is in your inventory so you can get an extra BS out of it.

You can do this too (BTW : There's more than 1 ring of Invisibility in the game :P )
