"Best" is hard to define... I certainly got the most use out of the +4 FoA and Foebane, since they were very early (I was almost tempted to return to a saved game when I saw that the +5 FoA had free action - yuch). The end game was much nicer with +6 Carsomyr/Staff of the Ram (which turns out very nice damage); Jaheira had no spear proficiencies for me, so I didn't use the Ixil Spike.

Against mages, Carsomyr and FoA were handy. Against run-of-the-mill monsters, the Larloch drain of the Foebane was wonderful. Against boss monsters, the unresistable slow of FoA, and Carsomyr's dispel and its ability to avoid Immunity to Weapons was key. I would imagine that "best" would depend an awful lot on who you planned to wield those items. If I were soloing a F/M/T through ToB, I imagine the Asyferlund chain would be the "best", for example.

All equipment Cespensar can forge is "best", if it is wielded by an appropriate character and used in the right situation, eg Psions Blade vs Illithid, Runehammer vs Undead, ...

All the Cespensar recipes are powerful. FOr weapon like sword, definetly Carosmyr +6, it is simply best weapon in the game.
Got Question from BG series? NO PRoblem, ask BG_DaDDy, YAh.

as much as i loved Carsomyr through SoA, whenever i use a paladin in ToB i have him weild Answerer/Purifier combo or Foebane/Purifier.

The Purifier is nearly as good as Carsomyr, except it doesn't have the dispel magic on hit. Add any other sword to that and you have a machine of a character.

And that is defined by...?

There are plenty of classes who can defeat an equal level Paladin wielding Carsomyr, as long as the player knows the advantages and disadvantages of his character.

Is everyone forgetting axe of the unyielding? Vorpal hit is what got my trapless, 9th level spelless 2 person group through the fight on watchers keep level 5 against Y'tossi. If you don't have a 500 point backstabber or a supermage it can save you in many tough fights, and it's good for classes such as fighter mage who can be too easy to kill. It's got to be up there ate least.

My favourite is the white dragon-scale armour. It's perfect for raising the AC of a thief - and a fighter-thief can use all of their abilities without having to change armour.

excuse me??? the fighter/mage easy to kill?????? are you kidding me??? in ToB, fighter/mages survive so much longer in fights than normal fighters it's ridiculous. fireshields, stoneskins, PFMW, PFNW, invisibility, mirror image, etc. etc. make the fighter/mage so powerful it's untrue. Think about it, stoneskin + PFMW makes you immune for 5 rounds in melee, so you get at the very least 10 attacks for free followed by only elemental damage getting through the stoneskins, by that time the opponent should be in pieces.

add a spell trap to that and you can't be breached either. fighter/mages are nigh-on unstoppable at high levels.

Fair point Thrain, you made me look pretty stupid there (duh, what came over me!). I still stand by axe of the unyielding though, and it does help weak classes, I just chose a B%$$^&*s example!

Cespanar's forge

I've always felt the best weapon is the one you like the best. Flail of the ages +6 is pretty sweet. Dual wield this with Crom Faeyr and watch the points come off. The Vorpal Blade is another one of my favorites. Minsc wielded this blade against Khangaxx. Khangaxx missed his saving throw. It was cool. I switched out Flail of the ages with the Axe of the Unyielding when I felt like it. The best armor? Definitely the Big Metal Unit. White Dragon scale armor was my fav. But...any armor from a dragon is good armor.
