Why I hate NWN :)

Post by iamweaver »

OK - I am a human. I am a diurnal creature - yes, I have no night vision - so I would like to REST during the night hours unless otherwise necessary. Too bad that the Multi-player NWN engine has a "rest" button that magically makes you take a nap, relearn spells, etc., all within about 15 seconds of real time (Better than Timestop!).

This means that I have long periods during which I have to walk away from my PC, since I see no reason to explore a new area during the night time (why anyone would, is beyond me). As far as I can see, this is a game "feature" that is unchangable, is this correct? I might not mind it quite so much, but all of the NPCs operate as well during the day as at night, regardless of their vision...

Yes, rings and some helms provide torchlight - but I still would rather run around in a world where my vision is restricted to 100 yards rather than 30 feet; especially when the henchmen and monsters around me still have that 100 yard vision (I have to run around with the <TAB> key depressed the whole time as a cheesy equivalent). That plus I want to *see* Faerun, not stumble around in the dark. In real life, I don't hike a new trail in the dark, even though I have a perfectly good helmet-light and flashlight, because I want to see the scenery, not just the trail around my feet.

Quick Question

You really "hate" NWN for this reason? You want infravision and you want to be human? Seem's to me that the game is set up to be somewhat balanced between the races with out one race getting everything. If you want to see in the dark, why not play one of the many other races with infravision?

Nah - I don't hate NWN, I'm having fun - I placed the smiley there to show that. Though I notice that even when playing a race with darkvision, I have great difficulty noticing opponants when its not so bright outside. I am just whining that, in other single-player games, I can push the clock forward without doing housework while waiting. Hrm, well, maybe doing the housework while waiting is a good thing in and of itself :) .

Why don't use Continual Flame on your weapon, then? It's just as useful, I mean, more useful than a simple ring. Or, use the light spell. Or get used to the twilight :) I've run out of ideas :p

So have a feature like in the Sims, where you can go to bed, you can speed the game up (or wait 8 hours) and they get up fully healed and ready for anything? Then choose as to whether you wish to wander about in the dark or in the sunshine? Perhaps they could have changes of weather too - I mean everywhere, not just in selected areas?

Just a thought.

P.S. Think you have problems seeing? I cast a Darkness spell as a Cleric, didn't realise you can't see through your own spell!! :-)

I'll tell you why *I* Hate it.

1) There's no real role play. Nothing like Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment. Where's the romance? Where's the true, 100% true interactivity. The ol' I make my own destiny thing? Huh?

2) There are no parties, just a little npc that gets in the way more than truly helps you. Or just get's killed.

3) Cheats. God**** cheats... what's the point? Any damnable hobbo can just start the game, type up his cheats in the console, and get a twenty level character in two shakes of a monkey's tail.

4) And this is a personal reason. My *ucking copy of NWN. is in ITALIAN!!!!! ARGH!!!    Does anyone... please anyone have some kind of patch to put it back to English? Cause I have the dialogues and stuff italian, as well as any text. The only english I hear is in the voice dialogues that the important characters have. Other than that I'm screwed! No offence to you italians out there, but i'd rather get the game in original.

5) For the reason above, my copy of Baldur's Gate II isn't compatible with this italian version, hence I can't import my character >.<

I mean for the love of pete! English games all have patches in german, italian, french, spanish, martian. For crying out loud didn't anyone make a patch in english in case some dumb *hit wanted it back to it's original state or something?

You COULD reinstall the game, and just take all essential files 'n stuff, put 'em someplace else, then put 'em back after the reinstall.

Actually, when NwN ended up being released using (more-or-less) the AD&D 3.0 rule set, Bioware realized that importing characters from BG was not possible - so they lied to us in BG2, the bastwitches! :)

Yeah but like I said, my copy is italian. So it's all italian. I need to find an english patch version. But I haven't found one so far *sniff*

You don't need to reinstall whole game just for changing language. simple find someone with english' version and take from him dialog.tlk file. i could send it to you via e-male.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too, but then Adahn came up with it again.
So, Adahn, you can't import BG II chars, no matter what versions you have :)

Italian isn't my first language, but I live in italy >.< And these damn spaghetti slurping morrons don't understand english. So everything is in italian (And though it should be rightfully so) I haven't gone to the movies in three years cause it's doubed in italian instead of in english with italian subtitles. Because the ginies are probably illiterate as well >.< - Naturally they do the same to their games, and it's impossible to find an english version of the game anywhere!
