Quick question. Cloak of Balduran?

Post by Lucian »

Have anyone managed to find it in the game, and not gotten it by importing it from a BG1 char you added after starting the game and getting past the noitem block?

I don't think that Deidre has this special item. I have both of the 'new' shopkeepers and yes!, Deidre has some of the Balduran-equipment (plate-armor, sword), but not the cloak. btw. it's a damn good item 'cause of the mag.res.... Think it isn't in the game at all.

It is, actually, in the game code itself. You can get it by importing a BG I character (who wears this) into a multiplayer game that has gone past the intro in Irenicus' dungeon.

Or you can CLUAConsole it ...

I wanted it for my monk for the same reason.

Unfortunately, the closest you can get seems to be wearing the Cloak of Mirroring and carrying a few potions of magic protection which give you +50% magic resist.

don't discount the Cloak of Mirroring though. I gave it to my barbarian who could then pretty much walk through the Beholder dungeon and lay down some serious hurt.

I believe Gauths become physical if you get too close to them. As for Hold, Domination and Confuse spells from Beholders, if you're lucky they will also cast a Dispel your way (to remove the effect of the Cloak apparently), which removes those effects right away. Kinda nice of them, don't you agree?

and something more speaking against the cloak of mirroring, is magical traps..those can not be reflected...as there is no caster..but with mag res you migth avoid damage

Magical traps may not be reflected to a caster, but the Cloak of Mirroring still prevents the damage. IMO the Cloak of Mirroring is better than the Cloak of Balduran but it doesn't give the +1 AC the Cloak of Bladuran gives in addition to its spell protectiong benefits.

ive had my char take magical trap damage even with the cloak of mirroring

and the balduran cloak also adds +1 to saving throws and does not count as a magical item like the ring of gaxx..making it worthwhile if it could be gotten..hopefully

It's a bit weird ... I've had magical traps deal damage through the cloak, and magical damage reflected by the cloak. A spell like Flame Strike (as a magical trap) is definitely reflected by the cloak.

Are you sure they weren't PHYSICAL traps that were dealing damage through the cloak? This can include various darts or arrows as well as things like the spears in the room of blades and blood (or whatever it's called in Bohdi's lair).

It *could* be possible that of the traps were partially physical, and partially magical.

While the magical part provided the effects (and thereby making you believe it is completely magical), the physical part (remaining unseen) actually does the damage observed.

If it's a flame arrow it's a spell, but it's likely it's actually a fire arrow. They look a lot a like, but are different in effect and in how the cloak handles them.

BTW: The Shield of Reflection (that reflects arrrows) will reflect Acid Arrow and Flame Arrow.
