6 spellers? impossible idea?
6 spellers? impossible idea?
I bought Icewind dale II from france and my plan was to do 6 spellcasters.
Is it impossible idea? Does it work? What spellers should i make? Do i need any melee weapon fighters? Does bards spell?
I would appreciate your help.
thank you

it sounds like it would be hard to keep track of 6 casters all at the same time, i suppose it could be done though...i prefer sorcerers over mages, because even though you cant learn from scrolls, there is no restriction to spells you can and can not memorize, melee fighters might be needed, try multiclassing....and you are gonna need healing somehow, but anyway Good Luck with your casters! there are other more experienced players that im sure will post here to help

yes
Thank you for your reply.. i will make healers too, they are almost important.
I know it will be hard to play with 6 casters, i have to use pause a lot.
Also lots of spells will be unuseful, because 6 spellcasters knows a huge pile of spells, already at the start.
I tought to make
- death spell caster (sorc)
-Cleric healer
- mage figher multiclass or paladin sorcerer multi
- gnome illusionist, identifyer and normal speller
- druid maybe
- normal sorcerer, the wise guy
Maybe multiclassing somewhere. I want good tips.
Is that impossible? Do i have to be hc player to make through the whole game with 6 spellcasters?

You could do it like this:
1 Cleric
1 Druid
1 Specialist Mage (Diviner)
2 Sorcerers
1 Bard
This way, you'll get all the magic possible. I think arcane magic is more powerful and that's why there are 4 arcaners. 1 Mage because scrolls are pretty scarce, 2 sorcerers because they're so damn powerful and a bard, because you get the bard songs, which are fun, and you don't need another sorcerer.
Of course you can multiclass if you want to. By the way, you could also take paladins or rangers. They also get (low-level) spellcasting abilities.

You could actually multiclass both sorcerers to paladins, because the benefit is great. I think you could do the same with the bard. One level of paladin gives you Divine Grace, which is the main reason for the multiclass. At level two you gain immunity to fear for yourself and +4 saving throws vs. fear for your allies and Holy Smite.
You could also take Aasimar instead of Wild Elf. That way you'll be able to start with 20 charisma, but at the cost of 1 ECL penalty.

Don't forget that you will need some pure muscle in the early game before your Sorc's and Wizards get up to high enough level to be destructive. Once you get to level 5 or so, the Arcane casters will come into their own, but before then their offensive power is limited and some of the fights you have will be VERY difficult without some bruisers. If you want to keep to the Spellcaster theme I'd suggest Rangers or Paladins as they will develop spells on their own, but not quickly. The other option is to go with 2 Fighters or Barbarians and multiclass them to Druid or Cleric after you get past the first few chapters.
Don't forget that you will probably only get off one or max 2 spells per caster before they close into melee range, so you need to be unble to deal with them up close. Druids offer much more offense than clerics, with Sunscorch, Entangle, Alicorn Lance, Beast Claw and Call Lightning at the lower levels and Static Charge, Smashing Wave etc. at higher ones.
Here's the prty I'd suggest:
1 Ranger (dual wield at low levels for extra attack and spell casting as he advances)
1 Fighter/Barbarian multiclass to Druid after about level 6-8 so he has good base attack and multiple hits.
2 Sorceror
1 Cleric (Tempus)
1 Bard (give decent Int. and a few Rogue levels for disarm device/open lock etc.)

Well, if you define "spellcaster" as anybody who can cast either divine, natural, OR arcane spells, then the only types that you are keeping yourself from making are single-classed Fighters, Barbarians, Monks, and Rogues. Think about it, EVERY other class can cast. So, yes, it's very possible.
Heidrek, don't forget that Battleguards of Tempus make very good meat shields. In my party, my primary tank was actually my Shield Dwarf Battleguard of Tempus, with the following starting statistics:
Str: 18
Dex: 16
Con: 20
Int: 3
Wis: 18
Cha: 1
Yes, its rather cheesy to set the dude's cha by 1 and int by 3, but let's face it, do you really expect your heavy hitters to talk for you? Now, just by virtue of being a Shield Dwarf, this guy's got a massive reservoir of hit points. His 18 wisdom will let his spells keep on coming, and 18 strength and 16 dex makes him a formidable presence in the battlefield. Oh yeah, and, Dwarves get a racial +2 to saving throws, don't they?
And don't worry about the low intel, probably the only skill you'll want is concentration anyway. As for feats, in my humble opinion you'll probably only want the following:
Combat Casting, Power Attack, Cleave, Subvocal Casting, Improved Critical, Dirty Fighting, Two-Weapon Fighting (maybe), Ambidexterity (if you get Two-Weapon Fighting), Discipline, Lightning Reflexes, Iron Will
There. Much of this information is from a very excellent guide to what is claimed to be the "perfect" party, by a certain Ken J. Egervari. Excellent guide, for powergames, anyway, this build was taken from his party. It's an excellent stand-alone, though, thoroughly capable of handling himself in any setting and not neccessarily as attached to the rest of the party as some of the other members he and his team created.
Other things I'd mention are: sorcerers are very heavy hitters but they absolutely suck at absorbing damage. If you don't want them to become mincemeat in seconds, my suggestion is to get only 2 sorcerers (c'mon, you really only need 2) and make the rest of them combat oriented, like the Shield Dwarf above. Other good combat orienteds:
Druids. Their forms are good for absorbing and dishing damage.
Generic Clerics: They've got animate dead, which can summon up a meat wall very quickly. One other cleric (once again, Ken J. Egervari points the way, he suggests a Human Morninglord of Lathander, and I have to agree) in addition to the above Dwarf, should be enough to summon quite a meat-shield.
Now, if you're willing to sacrifice a little, and dual class, that opens up a whole new world, which I'm not particularly interested in exploring right now. Some ideas are:
Dualing Monk/caster. I think there's a monk sub-class that allows futher dualing between the two. I'm not sure how well such a combo would work, but I think it's worth it to try it out.
Fighter 4/Cleric -: might work. Might not.

Thanks a lot, that sounded VERY good, but i really made the party already.
And they work REALLY well. Better than i imagine.
I'm so amazed. 6 spellcasters works much better than that old good power party. (2 fighters, cleric, thief, mage)
Even at the start when they are on low levels.
Let me explain my party, it isn't the best, but works well.

Thats my party. Just say if you want to know more. The order is not the same.
Notice that they all have quite good dex. So they are _very_ effective with non-melee weapons like bows. I have few summon spells, so when the enemy besieges the Druid (with few defencive spells) and the monsters from summon, the others uses magic and their bows. (also with bard song, and some potions and magic item, it is really really effective.) The Only weak spots are halfelf sorc and moonelf mage because they are so weak.. if they are on enemy archers target they probably will die if i have too much other things to handle, but it is very unusual.
That group really is better than the normal party.

that sounds really good, i guess the spellcasters isnt such a crazy thought at all!! dont worry about your two weakest, theyll get stronger as you advance, just keep them alive long enough to get experience and keep potions in their quick item bars...dont forget the magic of the pause button!!! lol

Just out of curiosity:
Why did you make a halfelf sorcerer? I really don't see any benefit from that race. If you take human, you get an extra feat, if you take Aasimar, you get +2 charisma...
And why doesn't he get one level of paladin?
And what does 'For' stand for? I know it must be Strength, but I'm curious what youabbreviated there.

Ehmm, i have NO idea why the sorc is halfelf, but believe or not, she is my partys powerkiller (most kills). I can't understand why..
They are working very well now when they are at lvl 5-6.. I'm waiting to get more lvls.
But only problem is my mage now. I don't find anywhere level 2 spells so he has 5 unused slots.
For is force. It's strenght in france and i didn't find out the english word..
