Post by MetalGrid »

Hey guys,
I haven't played IWD2 in a while and decided to install it... :)
Dunno whether it's a problem or I have just forgotten something, but about 70% into the installation i am prompted to "insert disk 0" I have NO IDEA what this means ... I only have 2 disks (1 + 2) :( ...
Probably an obvious solution that I am just too blind to see but SOMEONE HELP PLEASE NOW!!! i am craving :D

IF YOU VIEW, TRY AND REPLY... FIGHT THE URGE TO KEEP YOUR FINGERS STILL!!!! lol :D

You gotta be joking... 9 views and NO replies... cmon at least someone must be able to confirm they don't know what the hell is wrong so i can seek some professional help!!!!

I have tried EVERYTHING!!! this didn't happen last time I installed the game I am sure!!! All the interplay/blackisle sites/email adresses are bouncing and I can get no help!!!

I quote the exact prompt:
"Please insert disk 0 that contains the file data4.cab"

Now I wish I was well versed in IT...

Listen, if anyone can get thru to interplay... would you mind popping the question for me and notifying me of the response? I'd whip-up a big thankyou post! :D

HELP ME PLEAAAAAAASE!!!! hehe... thanks Egg

data4.cab... anyone know what this file is/does or is familiar with the .cab format?

No idea as to why it's happening. My advice would be to put in disc one, then do a search for that .cab file. If ye don't get anything then try putting disc two in and doing the same. I'm guessing the disc is corrupted and so doesn't have the file on it. If that's the case ye may have to either buy a new CD or try and find it on the internet to download. *shrugs*
That is the most annoying thing, when ye have a craving for a game that you haven't played in ages and then it breaks so you can't. I feel your pain,

I've tried to find a solution on the Internet, but unfortunately, the only pages that are likely to contain the solution are part of Interplay's site and forums, which are gone. Try complete uninstalling the game, cleaning both discs, and attempting a reinstall. if that doesn't work, you will need to manually find the file you are after. Beyond that, I've never seen this error before so I don't know how to fix it.

That sounds remarkably like Icewind Dale I to me. Are you sure you haven't just put the wrong CD in?

Yes, that is the prolouge of the first IWD. Maybe somewhere in your installation you mixed up your CD's? IWD II you should start out at the docks on the ship...with however the captian is.

Hedron I believe him to be called. I can't think of any other reason why that would be coming up, as, in IWD II, Hrothgar died 30 odd years back so it's unlikely they even made an image for him. Your best bet is to swan yourseflf outside and see if ye are in Easthaven.
