How do I open the gates to fight Baram (Spoiler/NWN original)?

I am in the second chapter and I first encountered Baram (Rat dude-High captain-luskan) and he wanted to pay me to off his rival Kurth. I accepted. I then went to Kurth and used this info to get more money out of him to kill Baram. But because Baram's minions consider me to be an ally, attacking them in the sewers does nothing, and the gates to get deeper into his lair are locked/not bashable. Do I need a key to get in, or is this a bug? Can you not double cross effectively? Thanks.

It might be a bug, try attacking Barams illusion.

Nevermind my stupidity...all I had to do was click on Baram (attack) and they minions would open the gate in their zeal to slaughter me.

On a side note kill both for maximum profit, Baram first of course.
