Is this game worth Buying?

Post by Daveron »

Hey guys Just asking if this game is worth the money? I loved Bg1 and iv played it at least 3 times and finished everyside quest inc tsc. Iv also been reading through some of the threads here and it seems very interesting esp The Deathless Journey :D great story sytze. Anyway if its anything like the reveiws say than ill have to get it but i really dont want to waste anther 40 bucks :( so any feedback would be great :D

Ps: i know that i spelt davereon or whatever his name wrong but i dont really feel like making a new account so :P . By the way im called that because it was my fave fight in Bg1 Those Battle Horrors were Haaaaaard ecspcially for a party whos level 4 ;)

WHAT, DON't YOU HAVE IT ALREADY!?!!?

YES, this game is a MUST. Even if i'm not bg2 geek as some of these other people are, i'm only on my second time trhough, it is THE BEST d&d game. Biggest differnce from bg is that you don't the great amount of wilderness areas, but Athkatla makes up for that a hundred times over. I never have had any problem with the game, bugs and crash etc. but i know some people have, i'm running xp with tob and patch. If you get it, get teh collecters edition. And $40 is nothing compared to what i had to pay here in Norway, 60 ****ing bucks!!

So run down to the shop and get it before, ehm.. you die!!

lol ok thanx mate but i dont think ill die :) or else i hope... Anyway the main thing i wanted to ask was does it use the exact same system as baldurs gate like mages book, quick magic spell slots etc. Iv seen screenshots of the interface but im not completley sure also is having acess to more spells more fun because i always found pausing the game a bit annoying. ALso Are there more scripts aswell?

I dont think youll find ANYONE on these boards who doesnt think the game is great.
And with the hours of gameplay and the tons of mod's for it, it's has a great replayability.
You can also take your character from BG1 into BG2 and make it one big storyline!

Have fun playing, and watch out with reading/asking for spoilers on this board. They can ruin some of the best suprises!

You will find out when you reach him in the story (not in the original BG2, but in the expension, you will reach AFTER SoA (shadows of ahm))

Scrips are better, but i always turn AI off and handle everything myself (got to love autopause)

It's a great RPG, no question, and the best thing (IMO) that Bioware ever did. Check out the sticky thread about mods if you want to see what the playing community has done to enhance the game, as well.

I believe the game is available in budget version (white label games), it costs about 18€ (20$ it think). You can download the bonus merchants pack from http://www.sorcerers.net. You don't get the manual this way, but it's in .pdf format on the cd-rom. And it's a fantastic game ofcourse :) The combat and spells system is very much like BG1's, with some minor differences. If you've played BG1, you'll get the hang of it in no time :)

PS: if you do all the wilderness area quests first, you'll be lvl 6 or so when you reach Cloakwood. I think Ajantis (my tank/main damage dealer, lvl 6) was only hit 2-3 times by the horrors. Not too difficult if you have a -13 AC ;)

Don't buy it. If you do it will consume your soul and firstborn. And it will turn you into a terror/communist (take your pick)

Buy it, but be sure to tell all your friends/family that you're going on vacation for a couple weeks so they don't become suspicious when you disappear :D .

If you find pausing annoying, then be prepared to be annoyed... :( I find myself pausing very often to rack my brains as to what the best action to take will be.

However, thats the real fun in the combat, and I'd advise you to get to liking it, so you don't miss out on a real rpg classic.

People who don't like BG2 don't stay on BG2 Boards.... logic, isn't? :D

if you enjoyed BG1, then you wil LOVE BGII SoA (Shadows of Ahm) and ToB (Throne of Bhaal) and yes the interface is just about the same, but i like the journal better, it keeps your quests and logs in order and now u can add your own side notes! ITS GREAT!! u should definatley get, and if you dont like it after all, then u cant say that u never got a chance to experiance the "Anomen" experiance, LOL! :D
:D Smile.... That way they wont know what your thinking :p

Spam removed. The thread starter doesn't need links to the patches, because he hasn't bought the game. Please stay on topic. He wants our opinions of BG2. Thanks, folks.

That is true. And here is a handy link. If you decide to buy the game from Amazon buy it through this link so Gamebanshee can get some $$ for the referral. And then who knows, maybe you shall get the blessings of the almighty Buck.

Is this game worth buying?

Only if you're interested in one of the greatest games ever. But otherwise, no.
