Dual-class and ToB abilities

Post by Path of Wind »

Whoever played ToB far, could you answer me for one question. If I have dualed-class character, dualed at, say, level 9. When character reaches exp.enough to get abilities, I will be able to choose only for the second class, or for the first class as well?

A dual-classed character can only choose abilities from the second class's pool.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Correct. You only get the abilities of your second class. HOWEVER, if you have multiclassed, you get to pick from both pools twice every time you level in either class if your total XP is 3,000,000 or more. This means multis get most of their pool abilities early and often.

BTW, for a F(9)/Mu this is ok. Combine Time-stop with multiple attacks per round and watch your enemies fall.

Are you sure it is starting at 3 000 000 exp. total? I will not need to wait till any part of multi-class level up to the designated level (which is about 6 000 000 exp. total?)

I am positive. When Jaheira popped to 14th level Druid (in Suldanessar with the ToB add on), she had almost exactly 3million XP. She got two special abilities on the spot (1 for fighter and 1 for Druid) but could pick ANY two abilities from the combined pool. I got Greater Elemental Summoning. You could also get Greater Whirlwind if that is more your style for Jaheira.

So do multiclass characters get to choose each time they level up either of their classes and then choose from either of their class's pools? And you said that Jaheira got to pick two abilities. Why was that? Did the fighter and druid classes level up at the same time? Or was it something special?

Jaheira got to pick two because her fighter and druid levels popped at the same time (1.5 million). You get to pick an ability from EITHER pool for a multiclass character any time you go up a level in EITHER class.

Arie is another classic example. At 3million XPs, she was IIRC a 15MU/16Cleric. Yet she got to pick things like 'Summon Planatar' and 'Acuity'. In her case, I usually pick 'Extra 6th level spell'.

I played a F/M/T and found that I can only choose from the Fighter and Thief abilities, the Mage abilities are not there. Anyone else found this, or is it just me?

I do not think you are able to choose mage abilities until you are able to cast them, i.e. level 18. As a tripple class F/T/M I do not think you ever will be able to cast any ninth level spells. 3.000.000 * 3 = 9.000.000 and the exp cap is 8.000.000 ? I'm not 100% sure about these figures, but it is something like that.
