I'm not sure, but seems to me he cant move at all (kanggy second version).
Best way to beat him is to wait a bit and protect your party better for this specific battle. And cheese a lot.

I disagree.. if you attack them and walk out and the mobs follow you outside then once they are outside they are neutral but will help you if attacked, then I believe you can charm one again and you're in control!
Also... this has GOT to be the like 100th+ "how to kill kangaax thread", there are a plethora of ways to do it, can't we just go back and search? Cause I think by now every possible and even eccentric way has been listed and catalogued in order of cheesiness, wit, and ease

That might be so, but that is not what I said. I said that you can't switch areas with a controlled creature. In the example that you gave, you have not yet controlled a monster. There's a difference

bah! but you CAN switch areas.... ok
TECHNICALLY it is not under your control when you get to the new area... HOWEVER, it WILL help you if you are attacked, AND you can recharm it and lead it around in the new area, so for all intents and purposes you CAN take it with you (no pun intended)

u can simply hack his lich form with protection of undead scroll, and he wont fight back and just sit there. For demi-lich, some undead scrolls+protection from magic scroll or spell immunity, and hit him with sling of eveard+5 or any weapon that is +5 or above. since he cant be damage by any weapon that is below +5.

Kangaxx is pretty easy
Im new to Game Banshee's Forums but i play Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 since they came out.Kangaxx was one of the easiest battles i did with my SUPER JESTER.Spell Immunity(Abjuration)+Carsomyr +5(Keldorn) and Sling of Evereard +5(Anomen)= A dead Demi-Lich.
Easy enough!

Agreed. I hadn't had the slightest hope to defeat him until I found out that the only possible defense againt Imprisonment was Spell Immunity. Both Haer'Dalis and my beloved mage knew this spell, so I could cast enough to defend all of my party members against it. Then I made sure that none of them could be charmed, and let Keldorn slash him with the +5 paladin sword (which had the added bonus of dispelling magic), and my mage did the rest. I had the others fight the pit demon Kangaxxx summoned. Wasn't the easiest fight of the game, though.

Yeah - this is one of those fights in BG2 that is a 1-shot tactical puzzle. I am glad that there are so few of these encounters that are trivial the 2nd+ time around; that said, I did have "fun" figuring out how to kill him that initial try, tho. I hate to whine about BG2 on these issues - rare indeed is the game produced that has as much replayability as BG2; even the famed Ultima7 was really only a 1-shot deal.
The best way to kill kangaxx (for me anyway) was to have one of your npc (not main character) wear the clock of the sewers and turn into a jelly. this way you cant be hit by any of his spells accept the petrification one (i think) once all his spells have gone turn back to normal and pummel him with you magical weapons (hopefully +3 or more), once he dies and gives his cue to become the demi lich quicly turn your main character into the slayer and go and kick the demi liches ass. Its a very good way to defeat him with little or no damage at all. One minor... you WILL loose 2 reputation this way but it saves having to spend money buying scrolls etc, and the reps easily brought back, happy lich killing
Cloak of the Sewers
I posted a while back about this, and because my Cloak of the Sewers polymorph wasn't the same as the Polymorph Self spell. The regular spell gives you 100% MR, but the Cloak gives 100% Resistance to Magic Damage. The cloak protects against Magic Missile and such, but not vs Fireball, Acid Arrow, Hold Person, and the like.
As I posted a while back, maybe my cloak is messed up, or maybe my spell is, but in my experience, the spell is MUCH more potent.

I usually just send a Beserker (Minsc or Korgan) and pummel him with powerful missile weapons. Enraging or Beserking is an interesting way to defeat Imprisonment. I have no idea why it would work conceptually, but it does work in the game...

They're immune to Imprisonment, Maze, Charm, Hold Person, and a few other spells. Nice, eh? You have to be a berserker of barbarian, though. Regular Fighters can't berserk. A nice trick while human that I was fond of while I played a mage in SoA (w/o ToB) was create a Berserker with 18 intell, an then Dual him into a Mage immediately. He caps at the same level as he did before in SoA, but can use any weapon in the game, and has more HP. THACO sucked, but no plan is perfect.
