How do I export a character from BG1 to BG2?

This may have been covered, elsewhere, or else I'm a moron, but I cannot seem to get it at all.

any help is appreciated.

After you finish the game (=killing Sarevok), your character will automatically be exported as 'char1'. You can find a file with that name under Baldurs Gate in the Characters folder. Just copy the file and put it in the Character folder under Baldurs Gate Shadows of Amn. Start BG2, choose 'new game', choose 'import'.

Alternately, you can choose to export your character yourself (although I don't know why you would want to; you could only do it before you kill Sarevok and you wouldn't get the xp). You can find the 'export' button in-game, where all the personal info about the character is (his stats, past, reform party, etc.)
