This forum is to be used for all discussions pertaining to Bethesda Softworks' The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and its Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansion packs.
I am an X-box player of the game and I am considering buying the game on PC for the mods etc.
I that people mention downloaing the newest patch etc. which I do not understand or know where to get, can anyone give me some info on a newcomer to the PC version of Morrowind?
i.e. Things I should be aware of or stay away from.
Any help given is, well...useful, thanx!
PS. I will post the statistics of my PC later, when I figure out what they are and ask if morrowind will run well on my computer, thank you! *kiss*
The patch for Morrowind is like any other game patch. You go to the publisher's website, look for Support, download the latest patch, and then run it in your game directory. Note that you only need the latest patch. So if you have Tribunal as well as Morrowind, you only download the Tribunal patch, because it's an add-on that in itself patches the original game.
As for things to get or stay away from: post your PC "stats." I'm surprised you don't know how to get these, since you already have a PC.

this will take you to the website with patches, please note that you need to download only one of the patches depending on which version of the game you have.
If you're running WindowsXP, right-click on My Computer, then left-click on Properties. That should give you a few basic stats to throw at everybody. If you've got Norton Systemworks installed, under Norton Utilities click System Maintenance, then System Info, for a lot more.
The amount of memory and the processing speed will tell us the kinds of mods (if any) you can run, and how many.

That's 11.4GB of HARD DISK SPACE left. 11.4GB of memory usually means 11.4GB of RAM, something many servers are hard pressed to match.
To check your graphics card, do one of the two things (On windows XP):
1. (Less powerful) Right click->Properties->Settings->Advanced
There should be a tab that shows how much memory your card has. Morrowind needs 32MB.
2. Start->Run
Type "dxdiag" in the box that appears. This should show you what processor and RAM you have. Click "Display" to see your graphics card. You can test your card under the same tab.
For what it's worth, I'd suggest running Morrowind, with or without its add-ons, and with very few mods. Your memory can't support many. I've seen several veteran mod creators insist that 256 MB RAM as a basic requirement for running Morrowind minus anything else. That said, you could try adding a few smaller mods that look particularly attractive to you; but IMO, stay away from the large quest, housing mods and the furniture/plant add-ons.
There are also a couple of texture mods that actually increase speed slightly, if that becomes a problem for you. I can post links to these, but as they change the "look" of Morrowind slightly, you may want to decide first whether you like things just as they are on the PC.

Thank you for the info (even though it's very dissapointing/depressing) and after talking to my father, I convinced him to consider buying more RAM to increase it to about 550-+, will that do?
Also, if I read and did this correctly, my card's memory is 32.0MB, is that good?

By the current standards - that is not a lot no.
However, I'm not sure as to what is needed to actually run Morrowind, but I would figure you would struggle with playing smooth, but with minimal settings..... maybe.
(one can not always rely on the minimal specs. mentioned by the developer/publisher)

I think 512 MB RAM will certainly help. You should be able to run some mods, after that, without any problems.

These are the minimum requirements for Morrowind, and any of the expansions. It looks like with your current set up you fall into the minimum requirements range. Upgrading memory helps, upgrading video card helps too, btw which brand of video card do you have? Nvidia or ATI or some other? Reason I ask is that you might need to update your video card drivers to play the game.
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
* Windows ME/98 128 MB RAM
* Windows XP/2000 256 MB RAM
* 500 MHz Intel Pentium III, Celeron, or AMD Athlon processor
* 8x CD/DVD-ROM Drive
* 1 GB free hard disk space
* Windows swapfile
* DirectX 8.1 (included)
* 32MB Direct3D compatible video card with 32-bit color support and
DirectX 8.1 compatible driver
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
* Keyboard, Mouse
RECOMMENDED:
* 800 MHz or faster Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor
* 256 MB RAM
* NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS, or ATI Radeon 7500 or faster video card.
A 32MB card may or may not run Morrowind. Intergrated chipsets with 32MB will definitely run the game slower than a snail could fly. Even full video cards with 32MB will be hard pressed to run at higher settings, regardless of processor and RAM.
Hey,
I have decided that I will not join the PC side for this game other wise I will have to spend a massive amount of money on updates for my PC just for the mods, but thank you really, for your help, all of you!
