Which Race...

Post by Qazaan »

Is best for playing Bard? And would it be wise to go RDD instead of pure Bard?

Select the race you like to play for bards. I'd however not recommend dwarf or half-orc unless for roleplaying issues.

And RDD makes excellent contribution to bards (much more then sorcerers in my opinion).

Half-Orc can make an excellent Bard if you take RDD and play mainly melee. One of my best powergaming builds is a Half-Orc Bard. Generally Human is probably the best.

i'll agree on Human. if you don't have subrace of Assimar ,human are optimal. of couse it's depends on your primary class. if you choose fighter/bard/rdd tha would be dwaf. if you planing to use bards's castign ,so that would be any race that suits you,but not dwarfs or Half-orcs...

I would recommend Elf for the Dex bonus, better weapon selection, Thief Skill bonuses, and auto search. All in all i'd say this is most valuable to the Fighter/Caster/Rogue role of a bard.

So if i make a bard/rdd i should ad som Rouge levels as Well?

I am planing to make him a mele fighter! So Half-orc, right? But then wouldn't it be better to take levels in Barbarian than Rouge? So that i gain the extra speed and Rage!

take fighter of CHoT. your bard/rdd will be in lack of feats as decent fighter. However half-orc realy not best choise. you can start with human 17/8/14/12/8/14 and after 10-th level of rdd you CHA will be 16 and INT 14,that will permit you cast all Bard's levels of spells and will be enough INT to take on Improved knock and expertise. CHoT with bard/rdd realy good combo.

I think the CHoT is short for Champion of Torm.

CHoT is Champion of Torm, though the more commonly used abbreviation is CoT.

But will the low dex be a problem? with dex 8 i can't get dodge and the like! Shouldn't I lower my con instead?

Ps: Thx for "translating" ;)

Why you need dex? all your AC will come from chainmail and shield. As bard you'll have Cat's grace as spell and that will eliminate -1 AC. with umd(use magic device) you'll use monk's boots of Sun soul - +3 dex. 8 dex is okey...

You should also get your hands on the Belt of agility + 4-10. it is pretty neat with +5 AC...

instead of using the belt slot for something like that go for the Greater Belt of the Brawler, Swordman and archer.
The 20/- damage reduction to physical damage is way better then a few AC extra anyway. (imo)
