NPC special abilities (as per CGW)
NPC special abilities (as per CGW)
Hi folks. Just managed to get my hands on Computer Gaming World (hmm, the free DVD has Tribes I and II complete games. Wonder if they are any good as I am not fond of shooters).
Seems that they are beefing up all the NPCs with special abilities to make them as attractive or even more attractive to use in certain situations than Jedi NPCs. They didn't give a lot of details but Atton Rand has the special ability of never being knocked unconscious. That means with him on the party, the party is basically unkillable (whereas in KOTOR I if all party members are rendered unconscious then game over). Also they hinted that the NPCs who can become party members will be dictated by alignment and even the gender of the PC. Wonder how they will implement that when the PC alignment should change over the course of the game.
Wonder how they are going to tweak T3 as it seems this little droid is the first NPC you will be meeting in the tutorial level. That level supposedly has you getting the Ebon Hawk ready for flight and the PC is running around in their underwear for the most part. Also I quote from the article "For the sequel, Obsidian is bringing back many of the NPCs, some to be your companions again and some just to show up in cameo roles." I take this to mean T3-M4 is not the only KOTOR I NPC that is joinable but then again who knows. HK 47 is confirmed as coming back but they did not state out plainly that he is joinable but with that quote, I certainly hope he is.
Seems you start as a Jedi but I do see from some of the screenshots that the PC has a light armor on so I wonder that being a veteran of the Mandalorian wars, they grant the PC some armor feats anyway (as Jedi don't have any armor proficiency to begin with). Hope you don't mind me not posting any screenshots as I don't feel comfortable doing that to copyrighted material (not as if they won't show up somewhere on the web anyway LOL).
They also state plainly that the XBOX and PC versions are to come out at the same time.
Any thoughts?

I was thinking, what if they kinda made T3-M4 fit into a Trask-like role in this game, like he's the tutorial droid and somehow gets smoked after five minutes, a la Trask. I have a feeling that's not gonna happen (and even though he's somewhat useless in the first KOTOR, I still like him so I wouldn't want this to happen to him), but you never know...I also want to see how HK-47 will play a role in this game.

But wouldn't that be a little unfair if Atton Rand could not be killed? That would make your party invincible, and ruin the game. You probably read it wrong, they might have just said he could not be stunned. I know quite alot on Kotor 2 but I don't know anything about the characters special abilities. So I guess i shouldn't argue. But that still seems a little infair.

As long as one party member is still conscious, Atton Rand cannot be knocked out...unfortunately, this means that the second you are knocked out, rand will most likely go down too, because I cannot see him regenrating fast enough to make that big of a difference...you never know though.
I hope there is a situation like Juhani's where you can get a jedi to join you, but this time, I'd like to see you be able to doax them to whatever side you are on, because I would have loved to have a Dark Side Juhani in KOTOR, Because I found with one of each Jedi class you are able to blast through that Starf forge a lot quicker it seems...It took me forever with Two Guardians and a Consular...
Another thing I'd like to see is a dual weapon class deal, where you can carry both a melee and range weapon at the same time...I think that'd be sweet!
It looks as though the Chick with the wrist rocket thingy is pretty cool though, among other abilities, she has some sort of poison darts she can launch from her wrist!

Useless T3?!
I found T3 to be one of my better companions in KotOR I. I'd never trade him for another Jedi. That aside, I could see him as a good tutor. Part of the beginning is someone asking your player how the out come of the first game went. That sets the template for your game expirence in II. If Mission Died, She can't make a cameo. I would apoligize for any spoiler I may give up, but if you didn't beat the first game, you shouldn't be reading this, yet... I bet you peek at your Christmas gifts, too. I could also see Canderous being an owner of a cantena you visit as a cool cameo... And who knows who you are going to meet on Dantooiene?!
