A small warning and observation about Sarevok (only minor spoiler)

Post by Zartuul »

I noticed that Sarevok has other abilities that aren't normally available to fighters, Deathbringer Assault only being one of them. The other is that he randomly has some kind of ability that stuns opponents or petrifies them. I see critters having to make saving throws constantly when Sarevok fights them. The problem is that when he petrifies something it ends up getting chunked and you lose whatever items it had. That has caused me to have to load up Shadow Keeper several times in order to get items that I legitmately earned but were ruined because of his petrification attack.

Anyways Sarevok is a badass and can hold his own even in a power gamer's multiplayer game.

Heh. You can earn some incredibly cheesy XP by casting Imprisonment then Freedom over and over again on the statues :D

Has anyone added Saravok to a good/neutral party? How does it work out? I politely declined his offer to join because of group aligment.

i havent done it yet, but what i understand, his alignment changes to chaotic good if you make him swear allegiance to you
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

Well, yes and no.

While it is true that you can get Sarevok to eventually change his alignment to Chaotic Good (through random dialogue that occurs throughout the expansion), the "oath" has nothing to do with it, apart from letting Sarevok remain with you.

The same goes, incidentally, for Viconia, if you're romancing her in Throne of Bhaal. Eventually, your responses to her dialogue can change her alignment from Neutral Evil to True Neutral.

I replaced Minsc with Sarevok in my good aligned party. There hasn't been anyone getting upset and challenging him to a duel (they'd lose) or stomping off leaving the party. You do get a few moments where your good aligned party members get in some verbal arguements with Sarevok but nothing serious has happened. From what I understand nobody will leave your party in ToB, I have a 20 rep and Sarevok bitches and moans about it but doesn't leave.

I'm not sure what the 'official' explanation is, but to me Sarevok's Deathbringer Assault and stunning attack are either his residual Bhaalspawn abilities (though they should have disappeared when he died), or he learned them while he was being tortured in the Abyss. Since he certainly didn't have these abilities in BG1 I'm leaning towards the latter (though a third possibility is that he gained them from merging with your soul, as his wraith didn’t have these abilities either).
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I really oughta clear this thing up, methinks. The Wraith ye face in the Abyss weren't Sarevok, but yer image of him. That's why he were wearin' his fancy armor an' all.

I nay know how he got the Deathbringer assault, but as far as I 'ave heared, the only thing I need to be knowin' is that it be darn good. :p

Wish I'd gotten Deathbringer Assault for Bhaalspawn powers instead of Slow Poison :D
