Monk/Cleric by SK (help meh)
Has anybody figured out a way to make a Monk have Cleric spellcasting/turn undead abilities by messing around with Shadowkeeper *cough UserUnfriendly*? I would love to know how you did this (namely, what affects are required). 3rd edition type character, but a quite fun character methinks.

i've never done it personally, since i don't like monks, but here is the basics...
first add this affect to a monk...
type: 0x0000012E
param 1: 0
param 2: 1
flags: 0x00000009
time: 6
prob: 100
target: 0x00000001
resource 3: SPCL915
all other lines blank.
this gives a monk use any item.
then use
CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("insert number")
to raise the level of the monk until you're ready to convert to cleric.
convert to cleric...
the avatar will allow you to punch out things, with fists as +4 weapons, you'll inherit the monk magic resistance, speed, etc...
but you'll be a cleric inheriting some, not all of the abilities of a monk.
OK so doing this I can have a level 40 monk with use any item that levels like a cleric?
no, you can have a FORMERLY level 40 monk, who is now a cleric, but kept certain monk powers and use any item...
be warned, while the cleric can use a staff, the bams for monk won't support the animation, so it will either look funky or crash the game...
one of the reasons i haven't experimented with monks...

I see you know a bit about monks, so I decided not to open a new thread but to ask my questions here instead.
Did you encounter any monks (apart from the Amkethrans, of course) anywhere during the game?
I tried to create a monk once, but I got confused by the description. It says that monks are best at fighting without weapons, right? Is it true that I'm better off dropping a +4 sword and using my bare hands (without wearing heavy armor)? I couldn't really track down the scores and penalties and stuff, so finally I gave it up and played a mage (which I'm very good at, btw
). Could you pls clear it up for me?

That's bad.. I wanted to edit the monk so he could use staves, because that's the general image i have from monks: they only wield primitive weapons, so i wanted to restrict myself to clubs and staves. Look at a documentary about the Shaolin order and you'll know what type of "monk" i'd like to play

I think there's a monk in Maer'Var guild, 2nd floor near the Lock Picking Training Ground. A monk can do great damages with her bare hands, but can also be a nice warrior with a good (Thief) weapon such as a Scimitar, a Katana, a Long Sword or a Short Swords.
Monks can deal up to 1-20 damages from their hands and they gain alot of AC, Speed and Damage Bonus with levels. A monk will be a little weak at low-level, but will be stronger by the end. My first character in BG2 was a monk, and it really worth trying. Train yourself and see if your best with or without a weapon. Weapons can have great abilities (Such as Negative Plane Protection, Immunities to Hold/Mind attacks, etc.).

Pardon my late reply, but the build you suggested is pretty funny User
. I thought you were using "punch out" as slang for killing, but you literally punch them out with +4 fists! How demeaning! In fact, I cheated in some golden appendages and "punched out" Kangaxx, which was oh so funny ^_^! 5000 year old lich just lying there, not dead, just really beat down. . .
Well, I'll be damned if I don't figure out a way to make a kit of those fists for another class. . .I am learning, oui.

Quivering Palm, one of the monk's special abilities... Kills stuff automatically unless they save. Very fun, especially if you have a mage to lower someone's saves, and then let the monk kill them.
The monk to me is basically the ultra uber cheese class to me. They become so freakin powerful you can kill anything you want by yourself. Magic resistance, immmunity to normal weapons, immunity to poison, immunity to basically everything.
I just don't play them any more after I tried using SK to make a mage/monk. I never had to reload any fight. There was just no challenge to it.

No probalo.
Crownhead, I know what you mean, but there's a difference between a lvl 40 mage having no challenge in the game and a monk who developed himself to hihger lvls without chesse. the first is a cheater, the latter is a hero
SP101, I think too many spiders and ettercaps roam the land (to my liking, at least).

The absolute ubercheesy combo is playing a multiplayer game with a Kensai/Assasin, Monk and Cleric/Mage. Do 350 damage with x7 backstab multiplier, fire a spell trigger with Greater Malison/Doom/Doom and Quiver Palm your enemies
Well... there isn't alot of Poison in the game, and normal weapons aren't commons too.
I (ahem) was merely pointing out just a few of the many natural special abilities that the monk has. If it sounded as though I was praising those ones in particular, then that was my fault.
But then again when you get bitten by those tiny spiders and their poison hurts you every half second it can be slightly annoying.
