Experience Level Problems
Experience Level Problems
Hey all. I've been replaying Icewind Dale II and have run into a unique problem (at least I think it is unique). I am in Chapter 5, just left the Ice Temple for the second time and I figured I would see how my XP is going.
Imagine my surprise to see that, although my characters are 13th or 14th level, I will not be levelling for a LOOOOOONGGG time.
Example: My Level 13 Paladine has 116,109xp, my next level is.... wait for it..... 1,500,000 xp point!
All my characters are like this, around 120,000 xp but next level is a million and a half!!
So, if anyone's heard of this or know's of a fix, please help. Kind of annoying.
THX

It’s the sensible, logical thing to do, of course, which is why we don’t do it.

I fully agree 300,000 xp won't take exceedingly long to get. However, 1,300,000 WILL. LOL That's what it seems to expect me to get just to go to level 14 or 15.
I am quite confused, unless this is what is expected, but looking at the manual, it seems like I should already have advanced.
I will admit I am unfamiliar with 3e, but this seems insane and quite a drastic change from 2e that I feel it has to be a glitch.
Thanks for the reply though.

It is a glitch. The Xp adavcement for IWD2 is very simple each time you level up it takes 1000 xp more than the last time to go up. I.e. from level 1 to level 2 it takes 1000 xp. from level 2 to get to level 3 takes another 2000, from 3 to 4 takes 3000 etc.
I hvae no idea how that happened, you don't happen to have a saved game before you leveled up last do you?

That's what I figured. Don't have a saved file, next to auto saves, and will have to go back a chapter or two....arghh.
I just check out this dalekeeper thing (never used it before) guess I could advance my level, but... I dunno, just didn't want to have to do that.
Darn it.
Well, I will check this posting quite often so if anyone comes up with any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the replies, frustration is setting in.
*Update* Somehow this error has affected the entire game. I go back to chapter two, my paladin has 20,000 xp (give or take a bit) and it says to get to level 4, I'll need 500,000 more xp??
I'd have to go back to chapter 1, pre-errand boy time, just to see a normal xp level mark...... maybe it's time to replay NWN
MERDE!!! I wanted to finish this, hate leaving games uncompleted.

Here's my character list:
Human Paladin Level 13
Half Elf Ranger Level 13
Moon Elf Cleric of Lathander Level 13
Human Bard Level 13
Half Elf Rogue Level 13
Human Sorcerer Level 14 (Loved that free 10,000 xp book.... when xp worked properly)
As you can see, I use a very basic group, no dualing, no especially unique characters.
I am playing the game, but... part of the enjoyment of these games (for myself at least) is gaining the xp, advancing in levels, getting new spells and feats etc etc
So, I am guessing that this might be a unique problem.... ah well.... guess I'll just keep swearing at it.
Thanks

Wrath, perhaps you are misunderstanding the situation. Yes, I am getting XP, but I cannot level up at all as it claims I need a million plus more points to get to the next level (14 or 15) I now know this has got to be an error because, as Heidrek mentioned, levelling in IWDII advances in 1000 more xp points needed than the previous level (1000xp to get to level 2, 3000xp to get to level 3, 6000 xp to get to level 4 etc etc)
My Paladin, for example, has 116,109xp, which means (according to the manual) I should be in the level 15 range. But I am only at level 13, with level 14 being over a MILLION more points to go.
The inability to level up means I am not able to receive the additional HP, spells, feats etc that come with levelling up.

No, I just left the Ice Temple for the second time near the end of Chapter 5.
My problem is not the speed in which I am gaining XP points, its how many I seem to need.
According to the manual, level 15 should be somewhere around 105,000 xp point (plus or minus any xp delay's you might receive).
However, according to my game to reach level 15 I'm going to need 1,500,000 xp points.
That's an error of 1,395,000 xp points.... ALMOST A MILLION AND A HALF.

Out of curiousity, you could try to start a new game and level your characters up a couple of levels to see if it's the game or some bizare save thing. If you start a new game and it tells you that to advance to level 2 or 3 is going to take a million and half points, then you might want to backup your characters and save games and do a reinstall to see if that fixes it. Honestly, I've never seen or heard anything like this before.
I know this is so frustrating.
I'll give your idea a try and see what happens. Have to wait until I get home though (At work, though as you can see, not working LOL SELF-EMPLOYMENT'S THE WAY TO GO LOL)
I've never had any of my games do this, so it's kind of shocking to be faced with it.
I wonder, is there any sort of cheat/mod thing that will let you set what the NEXT level XP points needed will be? Don't want to change my current level, just the amount it needs to level up later...

Well.... I thought I would try recreating a character, importing them into my current game, use dale keeper II to up it's level to 13 and matched all feats skills etc etc and my next level is.... yup.... 1,500,000 again!!!
REALLY getting annoyed now.

Thanks for the link Neo, but I don't think that was what I was looking for.
Was there somewhere through that link that showed me how to set my characters NEXT level XP required? I don't want to change their current one, just how many XP it requires for them to advance.
I am beginning to think that this error is going to be unrepairable.
So, I guess my decision now is to finish the game without the ability to level up, restart the game completely and hope this doesn't happen again, or just replay something else....
Ah well, thanks everyone for trying to help.
