Why do people hate moderators?

Post by Adahn »

Yes, why exactly DO people hate moderators? Is it because they don't do their jobs as they should, or is it because they do it too well? I really don't know why people do. So please tell me, what ticks you off the most about them. Moderators answer as well ^^ Why do people hate you? Or if you've experienced injustice or think you've been treated badly for some reason by another mod at another forum. tell us. I'm curious to know... :p

It's because moderators are vicious, evil, horrific, bloodthirsty, extremely disturbed sociopaths who should have their hands bound behind their backs inside straitjackets, rather than be allowed to touch keyboards and damage the brains of our young. There! I've said it!

I suspect the only people who truly hate moderators around here are those individuals who have been disciplined for flagrantly violating forum rules...

Personally, I have nothing but respect for the people who mod these forums. They do an awesome job in keeping Game Banshee relatively free of the nastiness and stupidity that can abound at many gaming sites.

I see you like Moderators ^^ see we have some vesatility. Some people hate them, others like them. I feel that "some" moderators/admins are doing an excellent, albeit difficult job of keeping the discussions on a level that is both informative and mature. They either defuse a potential volatile issue or put out the fire completely (lockup). I for one commend them for doing a thankless job that brings them constant criticism. - BUT- There are some Moderators that are redundant, and in some cases we can talk about "Legal spaming"

For instance the ol' "stay on topic" thing is very annoying, just like what they said to Drakron in that link I posted, "you don't like it, don't post" Or say that a guy posts a question, I post back explaining a few things and ultimetly say "but i'm not too sure" there are moderators that would imediately post "Then don't post if you don't know" or something like that. I'm not trying to whine here, and i'm not complaining either so far things on the GameBanshee have been grand. But I know quite a lot of forums where things are done this way. And if you talk about it, even mention it. You get banned - So technically, Moderators work us through fear and anger. <edit> Limiting our freedom, and god given right to nag and whine lol

You didn't get my annual The Happy Haters of Moderation New Years card???? :D

In all truth, why would I hate a person for taking their time to keep this board clean. IMHO most who hate moderators have deeper problems in their lives. ;)

I'm still going to send you a card though. :p :D

*points* What he said. :p
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I don't hate mods. I simply revel in chaos :D

Plus, T cracks a mean whip when I get out of line ;)

Note....

If Weasel were to ever become a mod, I may reconsider my stance. Maybe :p

And for the love of God, no one else spam my inbox asking why I don't like Weasel. You will only be saddened to know I simply like the badgering back and forth :D

On the Pakistani site i have mentioned, Fable's description is very apt and true. I hate a majority of them and since most of my friends 6 mods resigned from their posts, you can very well see why i hate the mods there.

However the mods here are very fair and just. Never seen a better set of mods or in general speaking of SYM a set of moralistic and good natured humans. Kudos to you all, i like you :p

I don't like the moderators

There, I said it! I bet it comes out as no surprise either, hehe.

To me, moderators are like Iron Golems. You just can't argue with one when they put their Moderator hats on.

However, I do they think they are cool people, yes, even Fable and Xandax with whom I've had many disagreements in the past, when they lose their hats. :)

Let me guess you got issues with authority figures? :p

Especially with those train/subway ticket inspectors. They just can't understand I don't wanna pay for the darn tickets. And so I have to use the 'I'm a tourist' excuse or something like that to be let off the fine. :D

Seriously though, I think it's because I associate a 'Speak your mind' forum to like, a real-life social gathering. And in a real life social gathering, there are no moderators. The actual people conversing would be the ones doing the moderating. But I can understand how there is a need for moderators in an internet forum, lest everything become chaotic. Still, with moderators stepping in all the time, I think it hinders the ability to actually speak your mind. But as Buck Satan dictates the rules, I don't think even the moderators have a choice in that.

True that he does. But i actually think there is more freedom here than most places. I mean i have made statements like Sept 11th was not such a big deal or stuff like why should the world mourn Sept 11th when they dont do it for the rwandans etc. Very incorrect. Very stupid of me to say so. But i was allowed to speak my mind.

As long as your comments are within the realm of decent taste, as in no porn or incest or glorfying rape you should have no problems. If a person in general has those views the person deserves to stop breathing air.

I don't change hats - I change signatures instead :p

But anyways - there are moderators in real life, and that is the people you interact with and oneself.
I'll almost wager on that people express themselves much more freely over the Internet then they do in real life. I know I wouldnt' go up to people I hardly know and share my thoughts that I find their oppinion wrong beacuse of this and that. This happens all the time on the Internet.

Besides - rules are in place for exchange of information and opinnions in real life as well - we have laws to protect people against rascisme, slander and so on.

I fail to see why people have a problem being moderated. Maybe it is because we moderators also post as "human beings"/ordinary users at times?
