Bug - Help!

Post by gladiator)NE »

Ok well I'm new (actually, I bought BG2:SoA i believe 2 years ago, played it, got to chapter 2 or so, and stopped - I've just now started again) to BG:SoA, and I'm @ chapter 3, just got back from the shadow thiefs, giving me the quest to end the vampires once and for all. Now, whenever I hit the map, my BG:SoA just exits out. No error message, no anything. I haven't downloaded any patches or anything, haven't connected to multiplayer, (im worried that if i do, my game will be reset or something. i think the game is a lot longer than 3 chapters, not sure about that, but it's taken me a while to get here! I don't want it all gone :( ). Any help?
Thanks

No. It will change the way a few items act, but not many, and it does not affect your stats, your quests, etc.

I would also suggest that after having installed the official patch, you consider the Baldurdash FixPack, which you can get here. It fixes a number of problems that weren't dealt with in the official stuff, such as a bug with the casting time for the Protection From Acid spell, or an incorrect restriction against Druids using the Gauntlets of Crushing. You might want to take a look at the SoA tweaks page on the Baldurdash site, too. But at the very least, the official patch, followed by the Baldurdash patch, are necessities whenever I play BG2.

Well... make a copy of your saved game and re-install the game if both patches doesn't work.

It still doesn't work! I've reinstalled it and whenever I go to the map and put my cursor over one of the bubbles (the ones that give you landmarks like homes and such) my BG crashes :/ .

Game Crashes

You might end up just working around it...
With my BG2, every time someone casts "Cloudkill", my game crashes... I ended up finding out by accident that it was tied into the sound effect with the spell, and I have to exit out and turn sound off whenever I want to use it (or think someone else is going to).

It's a pain, but the game is so great, I put up with it...

It sounds like the error is happening between screens. Maybe you can use the CLUA console to take you directly to the location you're trying to get to. I've never used it, so you might want to do a search for what the command is. It might work.

You might also try deleting the contents of the game's cache. Back it up before you do, elsewhere, of course.
