Using your main abilities is tactics, not cheese, imho

cheese

Don't you think that the dragon would object when he saw you setting traps right on top of him (as most people do)?
That does seem a little cheesy... I think a more legit use of traps would be to set them somewhere else in the lair, and "lure" the dragon over them...
But that's just my opinion.

In my opinion, though, the cloudkill/web combo isn't cheese. I don't see why that wouldn't work in real life (if such things existed :D ) on regular sized enemies. I don't think a web should hold a dragon, though. I've never even tried it on one...

Cheese is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to rationalize and justify it, you probably can :D .

.. I've never done traps, but from my understanding you place them while stealthed, if the dragon did see you, it would engage you in conversation, and attack... so I guess its not "cheese"

Cloudkill is cheese, because your not engaging the dragon in combat, you simply hiding on the edges of its veiw and casting on it.

i thought there were only four dragons in ToB. SPOILER:

- one in watcher's keep
- Draconis, outside Abazagil's lair
- the dragon under geas in Abazagil's lair
- Abazigal himself

Let's see, fourth floor of Watcher's Keep (or is it the fifth?). Anyway, the floor where you get to control the spirit warrior, and it's also the floor where you open the seal to Demogorgon. One of the tasks is to slay a dragon I believe.

If you are stealthed (which you can't be because dragons have a permanent true sight), placing a trap would make you leave the shadows. The dragon will engage in a conversation but you are always able to end the conversation without a fight (shadow dragon excluded, but you've got a shadow stone).
Also, thinking about it logically, if your thief is hidden in the shadows and is somehow able to sneak past the dragon and set a trap why would the dragon not see the trap and then rush to kill your party?

Traps are exploiting the code, and I don't see why so many people want to convince themselves it's not cheese...
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

In reply to Thrain: I think there are 5 dragons in SoA and 5 in ToB:

SoA
-Shadow Dragon
-Firkraag
-Adalon
-Black Dragon
-Hell Dragon

ToB
-Saladrex
-WK dragon
-Draconis
-Abazigal guardian
-Abazigal

Of those you only have to fight 2 (Draconis and Abazigal), the other 8 are optional.

Isn't Saladrex the WK dragon? At least IIRC.

There are 2 Dragon in Watcher's Keep, Saladrex is in the 4th level ('z' on this map), and the other is in the 5th level (middle door at #3 on this map)
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
