Once more.....*Maybe spoilers for NWN*
OK, I have my Cleric, who is tenth level now, so we're really getting somewhere. However, I looked over the advice about creating a good Cleric, and it said to select Weapons....Prowess (or whatever. I've found she can't handle anything more than a club, a mace or a flail as she only has basic weapon skills). However, I can't select them. I went up a level and was really excited as I thought I'd select something pretty good so she could at least use a sword. Owing to her low dexterity, I assumed she would not be able to handle exotic weapons (it's 8, so she can't even use a bow), but that she could get onto a few more. I pick the feat, and my "OK" button won't light up. I clicked on "Recommended" and it selected "Toughness" for me. When I reset, I chose "Toughness" out of curiousity, and the "OK" button still didn't light up. So it looks like I'm going to have to accept all "Recommended" feats instead of selecting my own. Which is a real pain. She's very strong, but I have only found Mace of the Iron Fist and one +1 club, so I always need help opening chests (which can get REALLY boring if your Dire Wolf or you Spider is trying to bash it open). I'm trying to keep Henchmen out of it to get the xp points more quickly.
Has anyone else had this poblem, can anyone suggest a solution and is it my computer or another bug I really need to get patched for?
Secondly, is there somewhere near Port Luskan where I can get someone to make me magical weapons? I'm lugging around all this stuff.....must try that chest thing.....but I can't find a Master Blacksmith.
Thirdly, what's with traps? I used to be able to sell them, and now even the Pool of Tyr "won't accept stolen goods". Well, going by that rule, everything I have is stolen! But it's only on traps.

Weapon profencies are taken by choosing the appropiate feats. These feats are: Weapon Profencies Simple, - Martial and - Exotic.
It has nothing to do with dexterity.
You need simple to be able to take martial, and martial to take exotic.
If you can't choose feats on your own but only through the recommended, then you seem to have a messed up game. But are you sure you didn't need to select more then 1 feat maybe? Could be you needed to select two feats.
As for the patch - always keep the game patched fully (current version is still 1.62 I belive).
Secondly - I don't recall a blacksmith being able to create weapons in chapter 2. Withouth spoiling to much, then I'll just tell you that you will be able early in chapter 3 though.
You can however create items in Eltoras lab in Port Llast (the starting city) based on various Tomes (like the one Eltora wants you to find).
Thirdly - for some reason traps have been tagged as "stolen items". This means you can only sell them to a select few "shady" merchants that will purchase stolen goods. There is one in Port Llast, near the docks.

Weird! I was sure somewhere it says in the manual that Dexterity effects whether you can take exotic or not. I have never had a character who can wield exotic weapons (always gone with the recommend button before now) even though I have had a Ranger, a Fighter, a Barbarian and a Paladin (I would have thought one of them would have had it recommended!). I think it's a messed up game, as if I were supposed to choose two feats, I'm sure the computer would have chosen two under the recommended choice. I will have a nother go tonight (provided I can go up a level) and hope that I don't meet anything major that I can't fight (already the trolls are slaughtering me!).
Ah, will have to wait for good weapons, and hope that my magic can keep me alive until then!
Oh I will try the shady character, I remember him.
Thanks for that.

If you can only choose via the recommended then you have a messed up game.
I never choose recommended, because I don't think it chooses very well, and I generally have a good idea as to what I want for my characters.
Dexterity only (mostly) comes into play with meele weapons when dual wielding. If you check the feat description you will notice there are no prerequsites, other then exotic having base attack of +1...
(this means I said something wrong before - then martial dosen't requier simple and exotic dosen't requier martial... will have to check, then it is armour I am thinking of ... oh well ... sidetrack
).
You don't need a specific dexterity to select these profencies feats.
Dexterity has to do with how you wield two weapons, and because some of the exotic weapons are dobble bladed - in effect dual wielding, it could be that connection you are thinking off.
(Dexterity also comes into play with finesse and then of course ranged weapons).

Ah. Haven't got her stats with me, and I'm not home now until the weekend. I can bring them in on Monday.
Basically I want a strong fighter with good magic skills. Someone who can clear a room from a distance and then wallop people close up. When she has Divine Power cast, she does pretty serious damage with just the Mace of the Iron fist. However, I have been picking up some nice looking weapons (just swords and stuff but they look more dangerous than a mace) but I can't use them.
I also need an ability to either open chests or be able to bash them open. I was thinking of taking a couple of levels as a wizard as someone has suggested, to get the Pixie. Otherwise, maybe I could go for a Rogue character, but I seem to remember that Rogue *does* require high dexterity skills. Otheriwse, it's back to the bashing of the chests.
I see what you mean Xandax, the Exotic Feat is listed, and I could choose it if my computer would let me. I'm still struggling through (got side tracked last night by "Crusader - Stronghold" - I kep getting killed by a Water Elemental so I decided to take a break) so haven't gone up any levels. Oh well, she's still an interesting character.

i have 2 sugestions:
1) cleric/bard/rdd. very powerful. his attack and damage even more then fighter/bard/rdd. dont forget to cast darkfire on your weapons all the time.
Domains you should have: Trickery for improved invisability. even when you'll be fighting,50% consilment will be great defence for you. and take Earth as second domain. that will give you some protection spells as well + ability tu turn elementals as undeads.
2) cleric/monk/fighter. or clerik/monk/shd. fighter combination will give you HP,feats ans BAB,but SHD will give you HIPS. take all feats for fighting 2-weapons.Domains Trickery and Plant. wear amulet of wisdom and cast Barkskin. 2 kamas with darkfire and 10 atacks per round will do great damage.

Ah, I was thinking about maybe going for Monk. I can't choose my feats though (I think it's earlier in this thread) so I have to take whatever the computer thinks I need, which is often not terribly useful. I was wondering how much your alignment affects the recommended feats, for example, my character is very goody-goody, so I seem to get the defensive stuff being recomended.
So you don't think Wizard/Sorceror would be any good? I have a pre-disposition against Bard's, I was told that a Bard in...."Baldur's Gate" I think....was actually very boring and not very effective as a character.
I stand back and await things being thrown
Parantis, I will see if I can sort the Feats thing for the next time I go up a level. Here's to hoping it's just something stupid I've done.....

Actualy not that hard to pick right feats. you wanna play Clerik/monk/fighter? lets do it.
feats that you need: Toughness,ambidextirity,2-wepon fighting,improved 2w-f.,knockdown,improved knockdown,extended spell,focus on kamas,improved criticals.
on epics levels you need to take only Greater Dextirity. maybe Armour skin, epic weapon specialization, epic weapon forus, epic powers.
if you don`t know what to take - take Expertices or some metamagical feats, like empower spell.

No, no, slight misunderstanding. My game will not allow me to pick my feats. It's messed up, so when I highlight the feat I want, the "OK" button will not light up. The only way I can move on when I want to go up a level is to use the "Recommend" button.
Otherwise, I would happily follow this advice. I'm going to try again when I next level up, otherwise I will try exporting my character and starting from the second module.

i played through sou as a cleric...i choosed martial wapons...i use a long sword with acid damage...plus i can cast divine power to add more damge...and the spells r really good...from buffing urself to insant kill spells....slay living is just so powrful...i killed the wise wing and da final boss easily...i am multiclassing into a bg now...though i already took martial weapons as a cleric....so it is kind of waste...

In order to select a feat, it isn't enough to highlight it; you have to click on the little gold arrow at the right of the feat you are choosing.
I'm sure you probably already knew that and really do have a problem with your setup, but I just picked this game back up after not playing for awhile, and it took me a few minutes to remember that.

OH! I don't know if I did that or not. Becasue I never usually choose my feats, it might be that I haven't hit on the right area. Good grief! OK, I'll be playing over the weekend, and I might get enough points to go up another level. Last time, of course, I didn't get a feat.......
