HoF too easy?

Post by Heidrek »

I've just finished the game in normal mode, Insane Difficulty and imported my characters into Heart of Fury mode. I'm clearing the docks in Targos, getting about 248 XP per goblin (I think thats more than I was geeting for Slaver Knights of Xvim or Ruinlords in normal mode), but I still have all my equipment from the end of the normal game which is making things pretty easy. Not much tops the Greatsword of the Soulless +5 as far as weapons go and my two fighters have 1 each so they are plowing through opponents.

Is this normal? Are you supposed to start with full equipment? It'd be much harder without these items so I'm thinking I'm not supposed to have them.

Also does Hof mode still use the difficulty settings? Is Insane HoF harder than easy HoF?

Nope, never used the Bard Song cheat/glitch. My party are currently around 18th level and started at about 16th. I've found a tactic that seems to work pretty well against mobs:

As soon as a swarm of opponents (like the Broken Tusk clan orcs) come charging down I have my Barbarian start throwing weapons at them and my Fighter/Druid cast Thorn Spray to soften them up a little then start hacking with these 2 tanks (one using Greatsword of the Soulless +5, the other Saga of the Wandering Sky for it's Doom effect).

Meanwhile my bard casts some disabler spell that doesn't affect the party like Slow, Confusion, Horror, Dominate or Hold Person/Monster, While my Sorc. starts casting Wail of the Banshee. This is a long spell so while it's being cast my Wizard casts Malison on the Mob and my Cleric casts Recitation/Prayer. When the Wail completes, the Recitation, Malison and Dooms have all dropped the saves on the mob, most of whom are in the area of effect for the Wail.

If it goes off well, it can decimate a large group of opponents, and I havent got SF Necromany yet. My Sorceror wears Young Ned's Knucky for the +2 luck bonus which helps too I think.

The real killer though is that your Summonings are really powerful. Generally one or two summined Undead could clear a horde by themselves.

One thing though, I'm not sure about how I should develop my Human Bard. He's currently bard 15/Rogue 3. He's using Golden Heart of Harper and that Spiny Urchin Shield that poisons in retribution. He's currently a sniper and disabling caster. I'm thinking of making him a more melee capable character by taking a couple of Ranger levels for dual weilding and use my level up feats in Spell Focus/Penetration to keep his spells useful. Otherwise I will add more Rogue levels for greater Snaek Attack Damage and the rogue only feats.

Does improved invis. give a bonus to your AC or a concealment chance to miss once you have attacked and become semi visible? You can be targeted by spells, so I'm not sure of the advantage you get from being semi visible.
