I would agree with Mr. Volk: I am completely speechless.

What annoys me most? People who perceive other's honest critiques and friendly advice as personal attacks against them. Oh, that and improper language.

I think the most annoying things in this world are mosiqoutes and when you go like an hour out of your way to get somthing only to find its sold out! O ya people who talk lik dis are annoying to because you cant understand what their saying!!!

Good grief. You lot the regulars need to calm down. Cant you see the kid is joking? Is language such a strong issue that you have to show such intolerance?

The kid asked if you find the way he types annoying. You all said he did. He commented he wont change added some smilies to show he is joking or teasing and you guys have a bloody cow. I mean come on.

He said he will speak or type in proper english there is no need to make sarcastic comments about his age or question his schooling. What are you gonna do next? Get one someones back because they use slang from a different english environment taht doenst follow the norms of SYM.

Xandax said respect gets respect. So far you lot havent shown him very little respect. Basically you are picking on a 12 year old. I hope you are proud.

I agree with cm. I find it annoying when someone posts like that on a forum because it is harder to read not because their being childish or something. Also it is sometimes a lot easeir to type like that instead of going to all the trouble of correcting grammer and spelling ecspecially if you are 12 (im 13 so i should know) if he wants to type like that its his own choice its not like hes breaking rules or anything. Heck the only reason i use grammer and stuff is so people can understand me not to be respected because no matter how i say it, it still means the same thing. hope that made sense

Well..I am not so sure about what gaming "background" you come from when it deals with how well you are able to type and whatnot..but it might just come into play..here are three examples..

Me (22/M/California) -
MUDs (text-based, no graphics)/Age of Empires (RTS)/Starcraft (RTS)/Diablo (RPG)
[I seem to speak perfectly fine, I use a lot of dots (..) instead of commas, because to me I just don't like the look of, having, sentences, look like, this..and dots to me have the same feeling..atleast the number of them affects stuff. One dot is a period, two dots is the same as a comma, and three or more dots are I guess trying to be all "spooky" and stuff.]

Friend1 (22/M/California) -
Age of Empires (RTS)/Doom (FPS)/Quake (FPS)/Starcraft (RTS)/Diablo (RPG)
[Can't spell worth jack, constantly uses those god forsakenly stupid anime smiley faces (^_^), but other than that he seems to get his message across somewhat decently.]

Friend2 (23/M/California[currently in army]) -
Age of Empires (RTS)/Doom (FPS)/Quake (FPS)/Starcraft (RTS)/Diablo (RPG)
[Grew up with Friend1, I have never seen someone so horrible in my life, he constantly uses stupid arse abbreviations like "sum1", uses stupid anime faces (

), you rarely have a clue what he is talking about, and when you ask him to rephrase what he wrote, it only gets even more illegible.]

So I guess what I am saying is it isn't exactly about from what types of games you played on PC (doesn't work with console since you don't have to type anything), just about who you hang out with specifically.

All three of us shared in playing the Age of Empires series together, and the Starcraft games together..as well as the Diablo games together..and two of those are RTS games (like C&C is..which someone pointed to as a reason they suck at speaking)..and I don't sound like an idiot when I talk online..I may ramble a bit, but that's all. Then again..I also played a MUD games called "Realms of Despair" and have played it for like 7 or 8 years now..and that is all typing all the time..whereas my friends are big in the FPS games.

Now my two friends and I all have Unreal Tournament 2004 and we play together on it sometimes..when they are typing, they still look like idiots..and when they use the voice chat..they are constantly screaming at people and calling them stupid immature names..but in real life they are nothing like that..it's really quite intriguing to watch.

ANYWAY..

As to things I hate (finally eh?)

People who end words with "izzle".
People who constantly quote tv shows or movies (specifically monty pyton/rocky horror)
Clam Chowder
Cheetos
Doritos
Coke
Ignorance
Getting pissed off
Getting pissed on
Fat people
Skinny people
Dead people
Living people

Spot on CM. I very rarely disagree with the regulars of SYM and GameBanshee, but lets be honest, its just spelling! What ever happened to pro-choice and just letting people crack on? And yes, there was an element of baiting from both sides, but I'll be blunt, its not like there's a rule or law for GB that says we have to post with perfect grammar/spelling. If there was, we wouldn't use LOL.

but u proboly started playing rts and some other games at an older age, I started playing when i was like 8 and i didnt stop playing online till i was like 11 (last year) and thas on a count of my pc crashed(my bro downloads a lot of songs) so i basicly LEARNED how to type fast from playin rts

so when u said it's about hoo u hang out with ... i gues thats partially part of it except for the fact that i don live with any1 hoo talks like this i mean i'm the only person in my family hoo types like this but i don "TALK" like this

and in the RTS i played u hav to get the message out as fast as possible thas how i go my habbit of typin like this

Something that annoys me the most are people who complain about mizzpelled words or cApItAls where ThEy sHoUldn'T Be. Even though I don't type that way myself I just ignore it and spend my time reading what they mean. Rather then spending 2 minutes questioning why the person writes that way and ultimately spending 10 minutes getting into a flame war and calling each other >removed by Maharlika< and mother >removed by Maharlika<. Seriously people, just let it go. It's not worth it. Occasionally people who use gr@ff1dy w0rds do kind of annoy me, but that's because basically they're trying to be creative when they write like that and they're spending a long time typing something that nobody really cares about. Which just cancels out that creativity by showing how ignorant they are. I don't let that bother me though. I just read what they mean and ignore the fact that they write that way.

I was about to write a long rant saying why I will whine and complain every single time someone misspells words intentionally/uses all caps/using alternating caps, and how I will continually call these people idiots until they learn how to properly write, but then I realized I'm tired and have work to do. Also, sorry for any unintelligibility - this is SYM after all.

Lemme give you a really REALLY good example of why it is not a good idea to use all capitals, or speak in 1337, or to do other stupid crap. Go to Yahoo.Com then pick any of the news articles on the right that doesn't deal with a war or election..then scroll to the bottom of that news page to the message board area and look at it.

When stupidity becomes the "in" thing to do..you want to start punching people in the face.

I usually ignore the netspeak drivel I encounter in GB. However I do know that some people don't realise that such typing isn't highly looked upon here in GB, especially first timers. I feel sorry for first timers to post here and get no reception at all, so I usually make some effort to reply, and hopefully the poster realises that everyone else around makes an effort to type in proper sentences, even nonnative English speakers. However some imbeciles just insist on typing in that hideously trashy language, and therefore attract absolutely no attention on my part.

It seems foolish to pick on D.E.N., especially as he's only twelve. Yet I think others as fellow users of the boards and, even more so, the mods should make some effort to make it known to him that he isn't being polite. Then again, D.E.N. to me just seems reluctant to do anything about it. Which could possibly be attributable to his age. Just not caring about the way he writes, or ignoring it, seems to me as equally rude and lazy. In my country people like that are called "bo-chap". It's viewed in the same light as someone who sees another skateboarding along the river. Sure, it is his choice, but if he happens to fall into the river, isn't it just mean to let him flounder up the shore, instead of trying to help him?

Unfortunately, that isn't to say that people in my country go all out to help others in trouble. Quite the contrary; a general atmosphere of cynicism pervades my country, where most people witnessing a traffic accident stand around and look curious, and some try to copy the vehicle licence plate number to buy lottery. Only a few intelligent souls actually call the police. Thankfully, these few smart ones aren't that rare.

Lastly: my pet peeve are people who don't know anything substantial about something, and talk on and on as though they're some kind of expert on the subject. Or those who don't know anything but based on rank or some moral compunction enforced by society (i.e. my mother, haha) insist on meddling or restricting what I have to do.

Actually, I used to type like that when I was like 14 or 15. I would make up words that had the same syllables but were spelled differently and it would catch onto the chat rooms I visited. Like ‘know = noe’ and some other nazi crap. It was actually kind of fun. Then I would joke around and yell at people for using my words. Even though I didn’t really care.

Eventually I stopped writing like that and decided to just type normally and even tried to use internet abbreviations less for the few people who are bothered by that typing and are confused by abbreviations they don’t yet know the meaning of. I didn't ever use internet grafitti or all caps or alternating caps, though.

I rekcon people talk like that because everyone talks like that on online games and you get so used to it. Also i got my fast typing from online games aswell. If it wasnt for runescape and ragnarok i would still be typing one handed
