Scrolls

Post by Elfenkoenigin »

Hallo, first I hope you excuse my bad English, because it is not my native language.
I have a problem with the srolls. They must be identified, but it is much to expansive for my group (I´m in (or at???) the beginning of the game. Each scroll will cost 100 Gold. Is there a possibility to get that a little bit cheaper, because I have only 86 gold and 8 Scrolls.

Unfortunately, using the Identify spell is the only way to do so, whether by casting it, or having a shopkeeper do so. In both cases, it does cost 100 gold.

Later on, though, this shouldn't be a problem, because identified magic items will sell for some very good prices, so even w/ crafting weapons (which costs both some money and some experience) and Identifying magic things you find, you'll likely have more money than you'll even know what to do with it!

My advice for now: Hang in there. You might likely find little need for quite a few scrolls if you use your own spells just right. The scrolls should only be used in emergencies (as in having no spells left).

Thanks Galuf. That is really a pity, because I have to kill some bandits, who are very hard to kill. The bandits in the yard I´ve killed with a little luck. But I don´t know how to kill the chief bandit and his friends. I try since three days andIhoped, that the spells could rescue me. My Party is only Level 2. Do I have a chance to kill these bandits? You can also use the Read Magic spell to identify scrolls, and i dont think it costs any money,If you dont have it already,i think you can buy a scroll of it (if you have a wizard) at Burne,in the big tower in East Hommlet.

You could also wait till you a little bit higher level to fight the bandits. They are very difficult yes.

Thanks for answers. The bandits are history, as you can see in my other thread. I have a scroll "Reanimate", but nobody can do it. Are Level 2 Characters too weak to do it? Greetings Elfenkoenigin

You should be able to use all scrolls. Some scrolls are only castable by wizards and some by clerics. If your wizard or cleric can't cast the spell. It might be possible it's a druid only scroll.

Some spells cost gold to cast, the ones that will bring a character back from the dead are pretty expensive. I'm not sure because I can't seem to locate it in the manual but I don't think reanimate will bring someone back to life, I think it's used to make zombies.

Reading scrolls shouldn't be a problem. Any cleric (or other spell-user) can cast Read Magic (0 level spell) to identify them. I usually have my cleric memorize all his/her 0 level spells as Read Magic because the other spells aren't very good. Using this spell is free.

My wizard can do it. You find it in the round menue. There is a possibility:Copy Scroll ( I hope that is called so in the English version, in the German version it is called : Schriftrolle kopieren,). It is in the round menue nearby the possibility "Speak". Hope you find it with my description. Greetings Elfenkoenigin

Let me give you some tips!

A few things to remember.

1. Ranged touch attacks such as melf's acid arrow, are crap. They rarely hit and don't do much damage. I suggest keep on going with Magic Missles.

2. Give Wizard/Sorcerer craft wand feat. This will make them the wizard out of the stories. Letting them cast 50 shots of the same spell per wand. I suggest making a Fireball or samesort wand.

3. Every spell under the level three spell level is crap. 3rd level spells are the most damaging of the lot. 4th level spells are usefull. And 5th level spells are a weird collection of useless and usefull spells. Never take spells witch only work on specific types of enemies. You will probably only meet those enemies once.

It's used to cast spells from (identified) arcane scrolls. Rogues w/ high ranks in Use Magical Device can make very good use of this, if you're looking to have a rogue do such.

Sindegra: Funny, I found Melf's Acid Arrow to work very well for a while, patch or unpatched.

melfs is a ranged touch attack, if its not bugged, use it to hit guys with little dex.

Armor means nothing to a touch attack. So aim at the fighters, not the rogues or wizards of the bad guys.

unless its bugged
