i am playing through hotu right now, n' i have a problem with finding sercret doors.
i am a cleric/paladin/champian of torm, i don't have a high check in spot(spot 8, search 0)i am in chap1, i find all the secret doors in centrel area but i can't find any in south area, i am standing in the right place. Is there any spells dat can improve my spot? would true seeing work?
I too was having a somewhat hard time with secret doors..and it doesn't explain in this game which you need for secret doors (spot or search)..
"Search is used to detect traps."
In the Player's Handbook 3.5 (actual handbook, not NWN handbook) under Search..at a DC of 20 it says "Notice a typical secret door or a simple trap"..DC of 30 says "Notice a well-hidden secret door".
"A successful Spot check reveals hidden creatures."
..a secret door isn't exactly a trap, yet a secret door..although hidden, isn't a creature..so the descriptive writers of the game are complete morons.
I BELIEVE I ended up using some kind of helm that gave like a +8 bonus to search..or maybe it was spot..I really can't remember, lol.

Oh yeah..and elves have a +2 bonus to spot, and a +2 bonus to search..(will explain something more soon)..they also have "Keen Senses" which is explained as getting automatic search checks with no movement penalty..still doesn't explain something else though.
In Player's Handbook 3.5 it says " +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it. An elf's senses are so keen that she practically has a sixth sense about hidden portals.
Dwarves get +2 search checks when in subterranean (underground) areas.
PHB 3.5 says "Stonecutting: This ability grants a dwarf a +2 racial bonus on Search checks to notice unusual stonework, such as sliding walls, stonework traps, new construction (even when built to match the old), unsafe stone surfaces, shaky stone ceilings, and the like. Something that isn't stone but that is disguised as stone also counts as unusual stonework. A dwarf who merely comes within 10 feet of unusual stonework can make a Search check as if he were actively searching, and a dwarf can use the Search skill to find stonework traps as a rogue can."
So basically, in the little handbook that came with the game it doesn't mention that Search is used for secret doors. And with Elf/Dwarf it doesn't say anything about them being able to find secret doors better. So basically you have to be knowledgable about D&D before playing the game to have any idea what this game is talking about.

I think that the only way to find a secret door is to have a high reflex and a will save (strange but true). It says so in the game editor.... That is how Tomi can find hidden doors.

It say's so in the editor: Choose the reflex or will DC to find the door you make. Now i don't think that would be any difference in the singleplayer....

What this means is that is the reflex save you set for the door trigger equals the distance in meters you can find the door from.
The will save you set for the door is the DC for detecting the door.
It dosen't mean that the person finding the door uses his reflex and will saves to find it.
