Question about abilities

Post by morf »

Is there an big ntage to have 19 str instead of 18/65 or even 18/00 etc.? If so, should i choose a half-orc for my berserker or kensai?

Same question for the other abilities. What is the big difference between 19 and 18?

The differences between having an ability score of 18(/00) and 19 are:

Str - An extra +1 damage per hit and an extra 50lb of weight allowance.
Dex - An extra +1 to hit with missile weapons.
Con - If character is fighter; an extra +1 hit point per level. Otherwise no difference.
Int - If character is mage; an extra 10% chance to memorise spells and the ability to learn all spells of every level. Otherwise an extra +2 Lore per level.
Wis - If character is cleric or druid; an extra 1st level spell and an extra 4th level spell. Otherwise an extra +2 Lore per level.
Cha - An extra +3 to reaction adjustment.

I would go for a Half-Orc character, providing your not fussed regarding PC-NPC romances (none of which will occur if your character is a Half-Orc).

Hope that helps!

choosed the half-orc and was lucky after a few rolls to get a total of 86.

ended up with:

str - 19
dex - 18
con - 19
wis - 14
int - 14
chr - 3

I have never played a half orc...
yet. There are just too mant strenghth enhancing items to worry about the 18 or 19 in stats. But that is just my 2 cents worth....

A dwarf is in my oppiion a much better fighter than a Halforc. They may have less dex and str, but there are plenty of girdles, and the extra saving throws dwarves get is worth very much.

If one exports a dwarf from BG1 and makes him berzerker he is pretty much invincible, with 20 con 18 dex 19 str. i think 20 con is enough to regenerate..(kagain had 20)

Whats the deal with the 18/XX str points? Its weird, Im not a PnP player and I think it would be possible to adjust the damage and weight allowance with the "normal" numbers...

It is made to give fighters a bonus to str.
All but one race has a strength maximum of 18. Only problem is that it makes the difference between 18 and 19 huge.
