Monks in TOB ?#SPOILER#?

Post by Fezek »

I Haven't got TOB yet but I'd like to know if anybody has finished the game with a monk
yet? From reading this board and if my maths is right he'd have magic res of 120%! And with hands like Pat Jennings to boot! Surely this can't be right?

I played a monk in BG2. I also played a lot of other characters through BG2 [main character]. I have ToB but have not done a monk yet. The new rules for monks are mag res stops at 78%. AC dropings get spread out so AC will not be that low. Hands act like up to +4 weapons at some level. Nothing about your attacks increasing, fixing the bug from BG2 etc. Also they don't get any special monk abilities according to the ToB book. They use the fighters special abilities.

SPOILER to some degree

There is a monk enemy Bhaalspawn you fight who has obvious monk specific special abilities, so maybe the book is wrong? Don't know yet.

The monk you fight is called Balthazar, he has some cool monk special abilites, such as Lunar Stance, Solar Stance, Shadowless Kick, Hand of Murder. I might have to mess around with Shadowkeeper to get those abilities. ;)

Alright Pebz, that was a clear goad for all to see. But it won't work because I practice buddhism and such things only get meditated away.......

Really there is mag res cap? S'pose it makes sense.

And assasins are all big @#$%s blouses! Coz all they do hit and leg it off like shandy drinking southerners.

Let me get this right..Bathazar gets Shadowless kick, Hand of Murder, Solar stance, Lunar Stance( does that mean he pulls a really disgusting moonie?) and sarevok gets Deathbringer assault, Petrifying attack, stunning attack and probably 'Magic 12inch ' and what do we poor Bhaalspawn get? Larloch's minor drain and heal 8 points? Great! I bet we were the popular ones in the family..veritable white sheeps Baaa!

I've finished ToB with the monk and there isn't anything fantastic to report. The lowest I've got my AC down to was -15 at 39 level which means that I could of had it max out at -16. Greater Whirlwind was what I put most of my ability points into. True, magic caps out at 76 but you can still increase it by having magic items. You get more stunning blow abilities, but no additional QPs. Overall though it was fun with the monk.
