SPOILER: HotU - No way to get through the portal!

Post by Enquillion »

I'll keep this brief. Seeing as I already had a helmet that provided immunity to mind spells, I didn't really bother with looking for such equipment prior to taking on the Illithid city. I blatantly ignored that Duergar. Approached the Illithid, ended in a fight. Killed him, killed every Illithid (actually every source of resistance) in the entire city.

Okay, not so brief.

Entered that lair, whacked my way to the brain. Agreed to give it the mirror, got teleported out. Fetched the mirror. Can't get back in - the guide suggests I get them hostile with me again so that I can enter the portal as an intruder rather than a guest, but there are no Illithids left to kill. I've killed thralls, slave dealers and even the golem to no avail.

Quick-save: After being teleported out again.
Auto-save: The clearing place, no use really. Well, that WAS the auto-save, I've adventured a lot since this. The quick-save is actually wrong too. Just showing you these couldn't have helped. :P

I put no binding point in there. Well, what to do?

You should have taken the helmet from druegars. Game checks if you have it - it is not really about mind-affecting spells.
I would suggest going back. Then do not fight just don't remove helmet before the portal to Overmind - then you won't have a choice...Speak with the overmind and give him his mirror - I think this is the simpliest way.
Good luck, good hunting...

Thing is I can't redo this unless I redo the entire campaign. :(

Edit: What I was hoping for was some DM command to make the Illithids hostile towards me again.

We'd be able to provide you with a cheat that summons the mirror to your feet, but faction reactions... I thought I had someday seen a script that did that, but I've been searching for it the last few hours (for other reasons) and can't find anything like it.

You have a problem there... just -how- much of the campaign would you have to re-do? Did you walk straight to :::: the winged-elf city and grabbed the mirror pieces :::: or did you do other quests in the meantime, too?

<edit> Well, there IS a way to change faction behavior...
dm_setfactionreputation <faction1> <faction2> <x>
Description: This function will set the reputation value for how faction2 feels about faction1. "x" is a n integer value. (0=archenemy, 100=soulmate)

But you'd need the faction name of the illithid... yours is most likely "player"...
## dm_setfactionreputation Player Illithid 0 might be worth a try...

With all the adventuring I've done after and before that, all I really have left is the beholder dungeon. Well, that and two dungeon bosses I can't kill but they're, fortunately, not necessary to kill. I'm going to bed now. Hope that someone will have found out the faction name by tomorrow morning. :)

I don't know how to reset the factions, but I would be you could find faction names via the toolset.

However, as for the game, then don't sweat it to much, give the Mirror to the Seer instead and be happy that you didn't extend the power of the illithid in the underdark.
Without spoiling to much - you will not break the plot if you can't persaude the Illithid to break the alliance, so there is no need to reload or mess about to much imo.
