I keep on beginning new characters... I have joined a different house with each game, and I have to say Hlaalu is the only one in which I have completed all the quests and become Grandmaster. I find Telvanni are a shade too Machiavellian for my tastes, though I really like their architecture, and the Redorans are a touch too pure for the type of character I usually play. So, I discovered that Hlaalu suited my style quite well. Besides.. 'Uncle Crassius' completely cracks me up! :D

Amen to that! I'd say House Telvanni is the clear pick; heck, you can get your own sphere guardian (it's not that great, I'll grant you, but it gets style points :D )
I sincerely wish we could re-consider this plan from a perspective that involved pants.

Haven't you visited the Dwarven ruins?

And as long as we're all (cough) trying to stop on topic (cough), which House do you prefer? ;)
Telvanni: grow your own house
for the home, i'd say:
Hlaalu--> it has the best view, easyest to get to

i'd say thoe either Telvanni or Hlaalu because i like the house of mages (Telvanni) but i like the house of thieves (Hlaalu) too. the fighter's house (Redorans) was a peice of crap, they don't give good missions, they have most of their towns in ash storms (including your home), and the one dude (forget his name, i think he is the head of the house) is a compleat jerk!
wut's a sphere guardian?
and i beleave the proper name for it is sphere centurean (and i think i also spelled it wrong)

Telvanni is the coolest. Their rewards are awesome. Aryon's Helper is so useful.

My current game is Redoran and they're just horrible. I can't advance due to people not acknowledging what I did. It sucks. Not to mention they're supposed to be a fighting group and I've barely fought.

That mission to get the founder's helm back sucks. Barbarians don't have high personality. Come on.

only tried hlaalu, but since i hate hate hate hate hate hate the ashlands, and since the other two strongholds are in there i have to say hlaalu, it's in pretty nice place, allthough i'd hope you'd get a big(not a castle, just bigger than normal place) house from the center of balmora, that'd be nice, why does your stronghold have to be so far out there..

but hlaalu stronghold is so quaint and nice and i've filled my place with vampire minions, mwahaaahaaahaa, anyone who needs a bite to eat is welcome  :p ;) :D

Well, I agree that the Hlaalu Stronghold is in a nice place, not too mention a quick Almsivi into Balmora, but I use a house mod, so it is more that I prefer their attitude to some degree. The Redorans strike me as rather self-rightious, and the Telvanni, though quite cool, are a bit bloodthirsty. I am one of those weird people that tries to avoid murder whenever possible. :o
Though, one of my characters is a Dark Elf assassin who will be joining the Morag Tong and the Telvanni; I thought I'd experiment in order to see if I can overcome my aversion to spilling blood :D
Hey gromph, whats that long m word you use.
Do you mean "machiavellian", and yes the telvanni are bloodthirsty, and if you had read any of my other posts you would know that im a pragmatic type who will eliminate anyone in my way, so telvanni are my kind of people, and besides, the best rewards are ones acquired after killing someone who harbors you ill will

have to say that telvanni have definately the fastest way to become the "boss". I mean there's 4(5?) mouths in tel naga that all give you quests at the same time and they're like:"bring me some muck that you can buy from the vendor over there".

Compared to the fighters guild:"here's 20ebony deliver it to somewhere, don't know where but it's out there, as far a way as it is possible" quests.

it's faster and easier than house hlaalu but haven't tried redoran though. but still all quest givers in one "basket" that's easy.. of course you need to do some quests directly given by the (bad memory day-mouth's bosses) but still..

It's my first playtrough, and I play the noble paladin-type so Redoran was my choice. I can't compare it to any other house since i've never joined Hlaalu or Telvanni, but seeing one person after another saying that Telvanni rocks, i am forced by my cuirosity to start an evil egoistic mage :)

Well, certainly not Redoran. I've never seen such god-awful missions anywhere else - going to the other side of Vvardenfell just to be a stinking messenger boy (or girl :) Very very paltry, boring missions, has House Redoran.) I must say, though, I'm caught between Hlaalu and Telvanni. I really love being a mage, and Telvanni's definitely the way to go in that department - but I also have played a sly, sneaky devil with speechcraft up the wazoo, and as those characters, I have really really enjoyed going the hlaalu route. Oooo, such fun missions! Same for Telvanni, though - very fun - though I really hate trecking all over tarnation every time I want to get to my patron. S'worth it, though. ;)
@ DW: Aw come on, you've gotta try Telvanni. Just leave your conscience in another part of the house for an hour or two and strike up some fireballs!!!! (Or you could go Beornica style, make a spell called "ebola" that drains all the health of everything within 50 feet within one instant... har har har)
you know what they say about all work and no play...
It's totally not worth the monetary rewards!!!

LMAO! Well, funny you should mention that actually ;) Last night, tired of all the slowdowns (and shutdowns) some of my mods were causing I made the radical decision of deinstalling everything and starting completely fresh, with just *one* character. This Dark Elf will do everything I have not done before, including becoming Head Machiavllian Mage with House Telvanni :D I just can't handle the Redoran ethos, and I really did not want to go the Hlaalu route again so soon after completing it.
