Heavy or Light Armor

Post by nirvecho »

What do you prefer? Heavy or Light Armor. I'm playing a Heavy Armor Dark Elf and he becomes encumbered easily because of the weight of his armor. Will this get better later on? I didn't have so much a problem with my redguard, but he was also encumbered a lot.

What do you use? As a combat oriented char, should I go heavy or light?

Combat oriented? I'd suggest heavy, because of the increased protection. If you have the strength, the weight shouldn't matter much to you.

id go light armor because its easy to find glass armor and its still pretty good(better than all heavy armor but her hands and daedric and special armor) but ya light armor is really light so its easy to carry around and you can walk faster.and it costs alot less to buy than other armor

What? You BUY armor?

Light armour is the way to go. Heavy armor is, well, too heavy. Glass armour can offer nearly as much protection as daedric, but is a lot easier to get.

heavy armour is better if you melee, since it has better durability and you take alot less dam from the attacks, plus your AR will be better too..
if you want to jump just train your acrobatics to 100..

just get your str to 200+ with CE stuff and you'll be fine.. IE daedric tower shield can boost your str by 45..

How about combining heavy and light? For example, [spoiler: highlight to read] ...the Cuirass of the Saviour's Hide (50% magic resistance and even higher protection than glass) ...and a set of Daedric greaves, the remaining pieces being whatever works best for you.

I sometimes go with the above combination and then round it out with the Dark Brotherhood pieces (light) that come with the Tribunal expansion.

I perfer heavy armor myself and I enchant some of my armor with a constant effect fortify strength or maybe even a feather constant effect.

You can never go wrong 100% resist fire and 333 armor value with the DragonBone Curiass. Im an all heavy guy my self unless something looks really cool with something else. Such as Adamantium.

I sided above with heavy armor. On the other hand, if you find the game too easy (which is truly the case--magic is cheesied up beyond belief, and the economy is broken), create a character who only uses light armor; or better still, only medium armor, which is pretty worthless. Give yourself a challenge.

Another option ;)
If you are using the PC version of the game, check out the Knights of Tamriel armour mods. They have a very nice variety of stuff, and you have to complete quests in order to obtain it. They aren't easy either. My level 5 character needed many healing potions just to get through the first room... and in the second she swiftly had her posterior delivered to her on a silver platter.. :o
Great mod.. because the amour is very nice, but getting it requires effort, and it is rather difficult to obtain right at the beginning

Jeremy's Tamriel mods all feature heavy armor (even Valshea, I think, which is strange if you look at it). The armor ratings offer the best protection in the game. Some are easier than others; Arkay was the easiest, and I've yet to beat his Mara mod. The lot of 'em can be found here. I think there are six currently made, with two more to follow.

Aargh... that is the one I downloaded with the assumption that it is light... Oh well, I guess I'll have a challenge ahead of me then, since I've specialised in medium and light.
Still... is that tanktop *really* heavy... I mean.. thinking about it in realistic terms... erm... that could be a tad uncomfortable... :o

I was going to mention the KoT too. But I think the Jet and Gold armor is easily the easiest. Just kill a lich and a bonelord. Plus it's right outside of Seyda Neen. It isn't as strong as the others, though.

The lich also has two thieves--ninja thieves, perhaps? Definitely above par opponents, and they're in the same room as the lich, who enjoys summoning stuff to throw at you. It's no quite as easy as one of the others, but it's definitely on the easy side...for that series. :D

I just have morrowind, none of the expansions. Will those mods work on my non expansion Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind? Also, what levels do you suggest being for jet and gold armor?

Maybe it depends on your level, then. I only had the lich and BL. I've never even heard of ninja thieves.

And Dibella isn't that bad either if you just run in and get the armor.

Could well be level-based, as you suggest, at least for that one. I know Jeremy's other Tamriel mods don't change--either you find single opponents of incredible endurance, or multiple opponents of incredible endurance. :D Even at an early level. I came upon the one with the pair of modified Golden Saints when I first was level 2, I think.

I believe valshea's armor is light. but that tanktop isnt' that great, since it's not compatible with better bodies 2.0, and your chars skin gets all wrinkly and ugly.. i prefer the tops+slips mod, you can make pretty nice looking altmer vampire with those ;)
