I have started a new game.
I have installed the second official patch, the Co8 "patch" and the Vicks & Wedge Mod.
Over these, I have added the level cap remover.
When I begin the game, one of my characters is loaded with items such as:
- Bracers of armor +5,
- Gauntlets of strength +6,
- a cloak giving 16 spell resistance and 5 resistance to all elements,
and a lot more...
And one other character has managed to get a load of 1000 +3 quarrels (which, according to the rules, are equivalent to 20 +3 weapons! whoa!!!)...
Obviously, characters of such low levels should not own such items.
My question is:
- is this normal anyway ?
- if not, is this induced by either the Co8 "patch" or "Vicks & Wedge Mod", even though reading the description of these mods don't indicate such a modification ?
I do not intend to use all these items (at least certainly not until later levels -level 10 or more-). Thus, my second question is:
What should I normally begin with ?
And, last question, can I safely leave these things on the ground and still find them later if I ever changed my mind ?
Thanks !
Yves
Which did you install first? The co8 patch or the other mod?
What character classes were the ones you saw?
Where can I look at the Vick and Wedge mod.. Are they deploying a startEquipment.mes File?
I did install Co8 before the other mod
I saw the normal character classes, nothing fancy
you can find this mod at www.sorcerers.net
I did not personaly check what this mod installed... maybe I should have.
It looked like it corrected some problems without messing too much with the game...

It shouldn't affect anything. For the most part your average mod only touches the text files..
The latest 3.0.4 release however is starting to push into the code..Though and we've started to now have to be more careful..
Steve@Troika was able to identify some that would affect saved games, but I think we avoided addressing those bugs for that reason.
Yeh, I have had a look at the mod, and there definitely is a start_equipment.mes included. I guess this one is either bugged, or designed to create cheesy starting characters... which it is I don't know.
I'll probably remove it. How does removing a mod impact existing saved games ?
Yves
Yeah, it's that mod that is giving you the extra UBER equipment.. It doesn't look like it's a mistake either... But rather by design..
You can either choose to get rid of the equipment by dropping it, and therefore keeping their mod, or uninstall that mod.. Your choice.
If you want to stick to more of the original 3.5 ed rules, I wouldn't use this mod. It changes some of the spells levels from 6 to 5 and also makes Giant weapons weildable by all....(and changes some other items too).
I see the V&W mod as being more for just jumping in and playing/killing things.. more diablo style, and less Rules lawyerish.. Nothing wrong with that at all, just not what I'm looking for.
Not to harp on you or anything, but their mod does come with a README. In the readme it says: "This package is not intended as a "balanced play" modification." and later "The starting eqipment has been changed as follows to accomidate Black Mage, Vicks & Wedge. Once again, you don't have to use it on them, or on any other characters if you don't want to, just drop or sell what you don't want for some easy cash."

Yes, you're dead right on that one.
My mistake I didn't pay close attention to the readme file.
The resume I read didn't seem to imply such drastic changes.
I have gotten rid of that mod and started a new game ; not a big deal by the way; I was not very advanced, and doing so will remove the urge I might have felt for using such equipment... once you know it's somewhere, there's always something itching that urges you to go and pick it up "just in case..."
I am set on a game-lawer type of game, and don't want anything fancy.
Thanks for helping!
