I know the fellow you're talking about. If you read his notes, it's apparent WHY he died. You can use the scrolls if you couple them with a "featherfall" spell.
I sincerely wish we could re-consider this plan from a perspective that involved pants.

Yeah the first time I encountered this guy I almost fell off the chair from laughing. That was so hilarious, ever since then I've been trying to run up to the spot that he falls on to see what happens if he falls on my head, but I haven't been able to make it there in time yet.

If you catch 'im towards the start of the game, I would recommend selling the scrolls: good cash at a time when you really need a little income boost to secure a few of the basics (a better weapon, maybe a spell, etc).

If he falls on your head, I belive he still will die, but one time I managed to save him. I enchanted a ring with Slowfall 30 points (I think) on target for 15 seconds and cast it on him before he hit (Took several tries) so he landed safely. It was kind of a waste of money. All he says when you talk to him is "I don't want to talk about it.", and he never leaves that spot. I ended up killing him and taking the scrolls anyway, lol

AAAGH! I never even thought of that! Sheer genius! I wonder if someone has put out a mod to make him more interactive? (where's Fable when you need him  )?

Right here, but I've neither seen nor heard of any mod like that.

WOW - that was fast.
Thanks, O Learned One. I hadn't even heard of anyone saving his life before, so I was clueless.

One time I managed to get up under him before he landed... not only did he kill himself but he killed me too... and there went thirty minutes of unsaved progress lol
I used to hate going to weddings because the old people would always say,"You Next! You Next!" Now I go to funerals and tell them the same thing.

You can also survive the impact on ground(when you use 1) if you activate another one about 5 secs before you land. That gives you enough acrobatics to survive. Great for travelling!
Looking for a MOD that don't need any Expanisons, and can run on Morrowind 1.20blahblah without any errors, that lets you play as a Huge(At least a little big) hairy monster! MSG me if you got one!

I've used those scrolls with success. Sometimes when you jump and if yer lucky you might end up in a small pond...and not die ^^. But some hard cliffs are easily jumped over. I usually use the scrolls. :D
