The readme warns against installing the revised HLA portion without starting a new game... Does anyone know if this warning is serious? What I'm wondering is whether I just need to install it before obtaining any HLAs or if it will cause some more serious problems...
In my experience, any mod that changes rules can mess up things if installed while a game is going on, while mods that add quests or creatures are usually safe if you haven't entered the areas they change yet.
There are references stored in the savegame that may not work any more if you install a rules mod like Refinements and reload a game. The results can vary from no problem at all to instant crashes or, most annoying, days of working perfectly and a crash when a character of a certain class gets her first HLA.
I recommend you start a new game. Refinements is great, BTW.
