Some gems are required for upgrading some Items.
save them,a and check out how valuable they are, if they go cheap u can always sell them, while they are likely easier to find.
Rouge stone is required to enter e certain area, where you will find the bes staff in the game =) Very hard fight btw, unless you have Daystars or go there later i nthe game. I had like a lvl 11-12 party when completing it though
God bless daystars =) SUNRAY ability Rules

For the most part no - just sell them. There is a use for the odd one - the only ones I can think of in SoA are a Rogue stone, Beljuril, and Diamond (it's always the rare ones anyway). Unless you install the Item Upgrade mod, which adds some more.

In general it's always a good idea to try selling everything to one or two merchants - so if you ever find you need something after all, you know where to look. (And believe me - it doesn't take long before you'll have more money than you know what to do with anyway ...).

Amulets (and rings) are never needed for anything (that I can think of ...)

As for a Beljuril ... check here under area 4 if you want the spoiler

If you're concerned about item recipes, GameBanshee does have a comprehensive guide of what gems to keep for making certain items in the expansion. Click here, and enjoy! ;)

I think there's also a mod that adds more upgradable items to the game, and which requires additional gems. The name escapes me, for the minute, and it doesn't appear to be a Weidu mod.

I believe you're refering to the Item Upgrade mod, and yes it requires a lot more gems (plus some scrolls and wands as well) to do the upgrades.

I think you are referring to the Item Upgrade-Mod fable, it has some items that require gems.
It is a WeiDU mod (even from Westley Weimer himself :D ) and available here.

One example from the mod:

Code: Select all

Red Dragon Scales
Sylvan Chain
3 Andar Gems
3 Fire Agate Gems
25,000 Gold
                        Incarnadine Elven Chain
(AC 0, 25% Fire Res, can cast spells & use thievery)
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

Yes, that's it--thanks, Numinor. I expect to start up a new game of BG2 in the near future (like that's a big surprise  ), and this mod will certainly be among 'em.

For that matter, all you mod creators and users may want to look at the sticky Mod thread, and see if you want to add new or updated entries. It's been a while since it was visited.
