Gidday all,
Is it safe to "park" NPCs somewhere - in the Friendly Arm for example, so that several NPCs can be swapped in and out of the group?
The reason I ask is that I want to try some of the NPCs from later in the game, but don't want to lose my current chaps, in case I don't like the later ones.
So is "parking" possible, or will the NPC just vanish if dropped from the group? Any individuals which do this? All can be parked? Only some? Name names please!
Cheers all,
TGHO

Parking NPCs
I'm wearing Boots of Escaping! I'm wearing Boots of Escaping!
!
Funny
! When I was soloing a character, I took every female npc in the game 1 or 2 at a time to Beregost. One time when I went upstairs in Firebead's house to stash some stuff, I noticed there was a sleeping woman. So I labeled this place, "Firebead's House of CHARNAME Whores" and parked every female npc in the game in that tiny bedroom. Some of them will attempt to leave if you kick them out of your party (Shar-teel for example), but not when you surround them with wenches!
Funny
"Parking the NPCs" usually works without any problems, but there are occasional glitches that occur for no obvious reason. I once put all the NPCs in front of the Friendly Arm Inn, and most of them stayed put, but sometimes one or two of them disappeared and then came back the next time I visited the area. For example, Viconia once acted like she was displeased with my Reputation, but it wasn't over 17 at the time, so I don't know why she was acting up. For another example, Kivan once ran off because he said he was tired of waiting for me to kill Tazok, but I had already killed Tazok.
In a completely separate game (in which I did not try to assemble ALL of the NPCs), I took Khalid and Jaheira to Beregost but then proceeded to do the Nashkel Mine quest without them. When I returned to Beregost, they were gone, presumably because a timer had expired and as far as they were concerned, I hadn't finished "their" quest. But the next time I went to Beregost, they were right where I had left them, and I had no trouble adding them back to my group.
I think the lesson is, you can expect occasional glitches, but most of the time, NPCs stay put. The reason why I assembled all of the NPCs is because I wanted to try all of them them, but once I was familiar with them, I thought the best course of action would be to pick the ones you like and stick with them for the entire game.
