Evil party (Suggestions for PC class)
Evil party (Suggestions for PC class)
Hello.
I was going to play an evil party for the first time.
Was thinking this setup:
Me
Edwin
Viconia
Korgan
Haer'dalis
Jan Jansen
Now, the problem; what class should I pick here? I want to romance Viconia, so believe I need a half-elf or human. I was thinking an Archer but believe I need to have a good alignment to play one which would rule it out. Thoughts?
Or be a sorcerrer. You do need to have more magery I think. HD isn't enough.
Isn't Edwin a mage? If it were me id be a fighter/thief or mage/thief

I want a full party to be able to enjoy the roleplaying as much as possible. I also don't really want to install mods just yet, I might do that after I finish this game.
I was thinking about more magery as well, sorcerer is an option but I've never really liked them. I'm just afraid I'll pick a spell I have no use for and be stuck with it . Do you think a Cleric/Mage multi would fit well? Would give some extra firepower in mage plus some nice extra healing/buffing when needed.
1 mage + 1 bard isn't enough. You should be like an archer/mage if you think thats too much magery.
I think it might be worth looking for some mod created NPC's.
He's got Jan too and Edwin is a super mage, so Nathaliel can pick any class he likes though that already has all needs covered (arcane/divine spells, thievery and front fighter).
I would suggest a support fighter, because there is only Korgan as fighter and Haerdaelis can be a good fighter only later in the game.
A F/T or a F/M are both good choices, but not having taken Jaheira why don't play a F/D (maybe dual)?

I think you should be a straight fighter. You have enough thievery in Jan, and more than enough magery with three characters casting spells. I don't think that F/T or F/M are the way to go. Straight fighters have better thaco, # of attacks per round, proficiencies and don't need to cast spells before every battle. It is really annoying to have to rest inside a dungeon, because your f/m ran out of Tensors, improved haste, or stoneskins. Use a F/T only if you need a thief, IE: no jan or imoen.
In general I think that many people use too much magic. Mages are useful for area damage, and spells which remove combat protections from enemy mages. You only need one. You need two to fight dragons, because they can't really be hurt much by fighters, and so alot of magic missiles are called for. But most hard battles consist of 1. Mage removing combat protections, and 2. Fighters killing the enemy. My parties all have three fighters.

I agree with themoot, you’re loaded with spellcasting. You don’t need another spellcaster. Heck you have 3 people who can cast Breech. Korgan is your only tank. Voconia, Jan. Edwin and usually Haer’ Dalis are all rear party characters. I would choose a melee type character. Even though Korgan’s a Berserker another Berserker would make a pretty solid front line of tanks. A Fighter/Mage is also pretty powerful. Stoneskin, Mirror Image plus weapon specialization, etc... Anyway as it is now your going to have to beef up Haer’ Dalis to be a front line fighter with Korgan, they could use some front line help or you’ll be in trouble. Take a Fighter type.
Btw, Viconia is not an option as a tank as she only gets 1 attack per round.

You could use kensai mage. They are good front liners and mages. (along with being a ridiculously good in general)
I'l lose jan personaly, but thats only because I'm so damn sick of him. (+ I don't like the short classes anymore, played them too much.) - Then get Nalia as your thief substitute (edit her in sk - check my 1-2 days thread)
Really it comes down to play style, alot of you guys require 3 fighters, I require 3 mages (1 pure and 2 kinda dual'd/multi'd) But then thats just me, depends how Nathaniel plays.

Another option would be a fighter/cleric (or fighter/druid, but those can't be evil ).
F/Cs are great frontliners, there are some really good self-buffing spells that turn a fighter/cleric into a almost unstoppable juggernaut... plain fighters are a bit boring IMO, and Kensai/Berserker-Mages get a bit old after some time, too

There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
Edwin is an interesting character but you will have many problems between him and other members of your party. I would suggest dropping Edwin for Minsc. Minsc is neutral good which allows for a broader rep level. Minsc I feel is more fun. This would give you two tanks, pus Viconia becomes quite the warrior as she gains in levels. Jan and Haer'Dallis take care of all your thieving. Plus they add quite a bit of useful magic.
If you are looking for an interesting class to play try the Wild Mage. There is nothing more fun then random madness in the heat of battle. I never get tired of seeing a Holstien fall on your opponents. The wild mage does have its drawbacks on some spells I think. You of course need the ToB expansion for this class.
enjoy

Fifteen birds in five firtrees,
Their feathers were fanned in a fiery breeze!
But, funny little birds, they had no wings!
O what shall we do with the funny little things?

I believe Nat. wants an evil party, so first choice are evil NPC, thus Edwin/Korgan/Viconia are a must (and are the best mage/fighter/cleric of the game). I would then add some neutral NPC (for rpg reason), but definetly no Nalia/Minsc if you are talking of evil party.
I agree that you need a fighter, but I don't suggest a pure fighter, much more interesting and fun to play a multi/dual fighter: at the moment I'm playing an h-orc F/T (actually is a barb/t with SK) and he is almost as good as a pure fighter in melee plus is a backstabbing machine, it's fun to play.

I think his party is perfect as it is if he wants an evil party, and Edwin will have no conflicts with any of his other NPCs (his dialogues with Viconia, Haer'Dalis and especially Jan are some of the best IMO )
Now, a small summary:
Korgan - Tank, primary melee damage dealer
Edwin - primary arcane spellcaster
Viconia - primary divine caster, undead turning, can make a decent frontliner with str enhancing items
Haer'Dalis - Backup fighter, some spellcasting (mostly self-buffing), identifiying
Jan - secondary spellcaster, thieving (he can even be good for backstabbing with str enhancing items), another thief is not really necessary
So that leaves a lot of possibilities for the main char, though I would advice another melee damage-dealer. You have more than enough arcane spellcasting IMO (Edwin+Jan+HD), so as I said before a fighter/cleric would be a good option - F/Cs can be evil , are very good frontliners and can cast nice supporting spells. Another possibility is a monk, they are very different from normal fighters and really cool at high levels

Definitely another dedicated front-line fighter required, I reckon. I agree with Numinor on the Fighter/Cleric option, as a second Cleric can't hurt. How about a Half Orc cleric/fighter of Gruumsh? Pity you can't use kits in multi-class PCs, else I'd suggest a Berserker-Priest of Talos.
Or you could go the Fighter-Thief option, to get stronger backstabs (I personally don't think Jan has enough hps to be sending off backstabbing). Again, the Half Orc Fighter-Assassin would be preferred!
Cheers,
